This 1966 Jaguar XKE Series I coupe was acquired by the current owner approximately two decades ago, and subsequently underwent refurbishment work that included a repaint in Carmen Red and refreshing the black interior along with overhauling the rear subframe, rear brakes, and rear suspension. A Pertronix electronic ignition and an electric radiator fan were also installed. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional equipment includes enclosed headlights, 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, dual side mirrors, triple windshield wipers, a Clarion cassette stereo, and a heater. This XKE Series I coupe is now offered on dealer consignment in Saint Louis, Missouri, with refurbishment photos and a clean Illinois title.
The Series I E-Types were equipped with covered headlights and taillights mounted above the chrome rear bumpers. The body of this example was stripped to bare metal, rust repair was carried out, and it was repainted Carmen Red. Additional equipment includes enclosed headlights, a louvered clamshell hood, wraparound chrome bumpers, bright trim, dual side mirrors, triple windshield wipers, a side-hinged rear hatch, and dual exhaust outlets.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by two-eared knock-offs and are mounted with Falken Ziex tires measuring 185/65. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The rear brakes and the rear suspension were rebuilt at the time of the refurbishment according to the seller, who notes that the front suspension was not refreshed and has perished bushings.
The cabin was refreshed with replacement seat foam and black leather upholstery as well as a new headliner, inner sill trim, dash pad, and carpets. Interior appointments include a sliding rearview mirror, a Clarion cassette stereo, and a heater.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 83k miles, and total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. A electric radiator fan has been added along with Pertronix electronic ignition. The selling dealer notes that the car has been driven infrequently recently, and may require additional servicing before regular use. Engine block stamp 7E60559 matches the number.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
