Sellers description:
1967 XKE Series 1 Coupe with 86,000 miles. In my opinion this is the best XKE ever made. The series 1 has the 4.2 liter engine, three SU carbs, synchronized transmission, covered headlights, smaller brake and marker lights above the bumper, along with NO USA emission restrictions. This XKE was originally opalescent dark green with tan interior. Opalescent dark green is a beautiful metallic British racing green which I found the paint code and had a draw down done for. (not easy) Matching number car except for transmission.

I found this XKE in 1995, and it had been sitting for 8 years prior. I selected this Jag because it was a well-maintained, unmolested, complete E-Type, with minimal rust. The previous owner replaced all of the brake calipers, rotors and pads right before he sold it to me. (1995). Now I have a fair amount of experience restoring cars and knew this project was going to be a long process based on my free time and budget. My plan was to create a solid E-Type that I could drive, but four boys’ later along with starting my own business I’ve come to realize it’s not going to happen any time soon. Overall this is an excellent example, which can be complete to any level you desire.
I installed a new exhaust system and rebuilt the carburetors so I could test drive my new Jag. I put 50 miles on the jag in 1995 before I began the restoration. It ran well with a slipping clutch (covered with oil) and original soft suspension. The rear end was tight, but the transmission was noisy. It leaked oil from the rear end, transmission, and engine. The cooling and brake system were the only fluids that didn’t leak.
I promised myself that, unlike previous restoration, I would not completely disassemble this Jag. I was going to start with the drive train and save the bodywork and interior until I was sure I had time for the project. I removed the engine and transmission, and the rear end and did the following:
Head Completely Rebuilt
Resurfaced New Valves Valve Guides New Valve Seals Existing Stock Cams Cleaned
Transmission Completely Rebuilt
New 1st gear
New Synchros
New seals
Engine Rebuild
Tanked and resurfaced
Cylinders machined 30 over
New Pistons, bearings
Crank cleaned
Rear End
Removed for rebuild
Reinstalled for sale
No work done
New Parts Included / Work Done
New complete clutch
Resurfaced Flywheel
New Timing Chains
New gasket set
New motor mounts
New transmission mounts
New Head bolts / studs
New copper / lock washers
Parts Needed to Complete Engine
New oil pump
New water pump ?
Timing gears ?
The body is solid but show some signs of rust through a previous “restoration / repaint” job. There was work done on both rocker panels and on the rear quarter panels. The bonnet is clean and straight and I don’t see any evidence of a wreck anywhere. Based on the color of paint I would guess this work was done in the late 70’s or early 80’s. The interior looks original except for the seats that were recovered with vinyl.
