I bought this car around 1990 from the original owner with documentation. Was delivered new in the early fall of 1967. When I bought it, it had very low miles, and was almost completely rustfree; but had been sitting inside with very little use for years. It was stripped to bare metal and given as good a black paint job as I've ever seen. Completely rebuilt mechanically at that time. This car was definitely a covered headlight car from day one.

This 1967 Jaguar XKE coupe is a Series I coupe that was sold new from Tappan Motors of North Tarrytown, New York on September 1, 1966, and it was refurbished in the early 1990s. The seller acquired the car in February 1995, reportedly from its second owner, and a mechanical refresh was carried out in 2019. The car is finished in black over red upholstery and is powered by a 4.2L inline-six mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes chrome 15″ knockoff wire wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, triple SU carburetors, an aluminum radiator, covered headlights, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an Autovox push-button radio. This XKE coupe is offered with a tool kit and jack, a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, an original invoice, service records, and a clean New Hampshire title in the seller’s name.
The car was finished from the factory in black and was repainted in 1990. Exterior details include a louvered clamshell hood, covered headlights, chrome bumpers with overriders, a bullet-style left-side mirror, vented rear quarter windows, a side-hinged hatch, and twin central exhaust outlets. Weatherstripping for the doors, windows, and rear hatch was replaced in October 2019. Close-up images detailing the lenses, badging, and trim are provided in the gallery below.
Replacement 15″ knockoff wire wheels are finished in chrome and mounted with 205/65 Vredestein Quatrac tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. The car is equipped with Koni shocks at all four corners. Work in October 2019 included repairing the steering rack and replacing the upper and lower front ball joints as well as the brake master cylinder, servo, and lines.
The cabin is equipped with bucket seats trimmed in red upholstery, along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Appointments include hand-crank side windows, a cabin heater, lap belts, a center armrest, and an Autovox push-button radio. The dash pad and center console were reupholstered in 2019 and the heater valve was replaced.
A wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation that includes a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and centrally positioned auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 44k miles, approximately 4k of which have been added by the seller. The clock inset in the tachometer does not work.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features triple SU carburetors, an aftermarket high-torque starter, and an aluminum radiator. The engine compartment was disassembled, cleaned, and components refinished in the fall of 2019 by Donovan Motorcar Service of Lenox, Massachusetts. At this time the carburetors were rebuilt and the fuel pump was replaced.
The cylinder head stamping is shown above, and close-up photos showing the stamping on the block are included below.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch hydraulic cylinders and differential cover gasket were replaced in October 2019 and the fluids for the transmission and differential were flushed. An undercoating was also applied to the chassis at that time.
An original invoice from Tappan Motors of North Tarrytown, New York is included in the sale, along with a Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate, manufacturer’s literature, and service records.
