This 1967 Jaguar XKE is a Series 1 coupe finished in red over a black interior and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. It was purchased new in January 1968 at Kansas City Motors in Missouri. The selling dealer acquired the car in 2019 from a doctor in Missouri, who is said to have owned it since the 1970s. A refurbishment was carried out from 2004 to 2008 by Larry West, a former JCNA judge in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Work included refinishing the body, reupholstering the interior, replacing the rubber seals, and reconditioning the chrome plating, The engine along with the suspension, fuel, cooling, and brake systems were rebuilt at this time. This E-Type is now offered with its warranty card, glove-compartment books, records from the refurbishment, and a clean Missouri title.
The color was changed from white to red during the refurbishment. Brightwork was sent out and professionally reconditioned before being reinstalled with new gaskets and seals. The four-wheel Dunlop disc-brake system received overhauled calipers and a resealed master cylinder during the refurbishment. New Boge shocks were installed in each corner, while new bushings were fitted for the control arms. The 15″ chrome wire wheels are wrapped in a set of 185-series Vredestein Sprint Classic tires, and a matching spare is located in the rear compartment.
The interior has been retrimmed with black leather on the seats and center console, and it features matching door panels, black carpet, and a wool headliner. A retro-look digital stereo is located in the center console.
Smiths instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5,000-rpm redline. 21k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, with actual mileage unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was rebuilt by Larry West Enterprises in 2004 with new .020″ oversize pistons and new bearings for the mains, rods, and camshafts. Both timing chains were replaced along with the tensioners and dampers, as was the oil pump. A conversion gasket set was installed at this time. The carburetors and cooling system were also rebuilt, and the headers received a new black porcelain coating. Power is routed through a fully synchronized four-speed manual gearbox. A new wiring harness and stainless exhaust system were fitted during the refurbishment. Additional photos of the underside are presented in the gallery.
The sale includes the warranty certificate from 1968 and a glove-compartment sleeve containing the owner’s manual and maintenance vouchers. A soft mallet, factory jack, and a modern wheel wrench are also included.
