Car sold at auction 1/05 in Phoenix, Arizona.
www.rmauctions.com/events/auctionresults.cfm

Auction description:
The car offered here is an excellent example of the second generation of E-Types, with an updated, more powerful 4,235cc engine and an all new synchromesh four-speed manual gearbox. Many people today still consider the 4.2 liter examples of 1967 the pinnacle of E-Type design.

This particular E-Type had been in the possession of one family since new until it was purchased a short time ago by its current owner. The Jaguar has recently benefited from a comprehensive restoration by a marque specialist that has been well documented and we understand the Jaguar still has the original books and records as well as a detailed log of the restoration, all of which will accompany the car in its sale.

Work completed during the recent restoration included a full engine rebuild, rebuilt carburetors, clutch, brake systems, restored shocks, new suspension, under carriage rebuild, replaced stone guards, new exhaust system and a rear end rebuild. The vendor
reports that all work was done to factory specifications resulting in a very tidy and correct car. In addition to the mechanics of the car, the exterior also received extensive attention – including the body, doors, bonnet and boot being stripped, epoxy sealed and painted, color sanded and buffed, with new rubber, seals, grommets, gaskets and trim being replaced.
The restoration of the interior was of course to equally thorough standards and saw the carpets, panels, dash and seats all being redone.

Since the completion of the restoration, the Jaguar has logged less than 500 miles and accordingly it remains in near flawless overall condition and still awaits the completion of its break-in miles. This lovely E-Type Fixed Head Coupe is truly stunning finished in the rare and desirable color combination of Primrose yellow with a black interior. It is more than ready for its debut on the show circuit and with its peerless restoration and excellent provenance it is a sure-fire entreé to the winner’s circle of JCNA events across the country.

This 1966 Jaguar XKE is a Series I coupe powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes triple SU side-draft carburetors, covered headlights, chrome wire wheels, and a Blaupunkt AM/FM radio. A refurbishment was conducted in 2003 during prior ownership, and the car resided in Ohio and Massachusetts prior to the selling dealer’s acquisition in March 2021. Recent maintenance is said to have included refinishing the exhaust headers and replacement of the fuel pump, ignition coil, and tachometer drive. This XKE is now offered at no reserve with refurbishment photos, records, an owner’s manual, a tool roll, and a clean Massachusetts title listing the car as a 1967 model year.

The selling dealer states the car was delivered in Pale Primrose and repainted in its factory color while under prior ownership. Features include recessed headlights with clear covers, split chrome bumpers with guards, a vented hood, a sloping roofline with a side-opening hatch, and tail lights mounted over the rear bumpers.

Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels are secured with two-eared knock-offs and wear Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. A matching spare wheel and tire is stored in the rear compartment, and braking is managed by four-wheel discs.

Cabin finishes include black upholstery accompanied by matching treatments for the dashboard, door panels, and carpeting. A Blaupunkt AM/FM radio is linked to speakers fitted either side of the center stack, and lap belts are provided for both occupants.

The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset clock. An ammeter and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are housed within the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 44k miles.

The 4.2-liter inline-six is equipped with triple SU side-draft carburetors and was factory rated at 265 horsepower and 283 lb-ft of torque. Maintenance in 2020 included an oil change and replacement of the fuel pump, ignition coil, and tachometer drive, while maintenance conducted in 2021 included recoating the exhaust headers and servicing the left-side window according to the selling dealer.

Cylinder head stamping number 7E9637-9 matches the number listed on the chassis plate.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission.

The factory tool roll is included in the sale and is accompanied by a jack, an owner’s manual, and service records.
