1968 Jaguar E-Type FHC NOT 2+2!! I rescued this cat from it's 2nd owner who had it stored under a tarp in a back yard here in So. Calif. This one has FACTORY A/C and tinted SUNDYM glass; a very rare option! The car was last run in 75 and registered in 1976, and I have an unused Calif. sticker set from 1976 still stapled to the old style punched card registration. The previous owner said they tired of getting speeding tickets and could no longer afford the insurance. The car was driven into the back yard, parked and covered for 30 YEARS! This is a "Series 1 1/2" car with open headlamps, ribbed cam covers and rocker style switches. At some point the engine was given a set of TRIPLE S.U. carburetors for increased power and less troublesome tuning. The A/C condensor is still in place in front of the radiator, and although not installed, the A/C blower box is present. The car is still sitting on old Firestone E78 tires, and factory wire wheels which do show signs of rust. The car even has it's original windshield with a factory sticker with an emblem of the British government thanking the Jaguar factory for outstanding export achievments! Being a So. Calif. car its entire life, I could find no body rust other than a bit of surface corrosion on the driver's side floor pan. Both floor pans have been slightly damaged probably from someone trying to use a jack in the wrong place. this typical damage can easily be repaired. All chrome trim is intact including bumpers, headlamp "crows foot" trim, door handles, tailights, windshield and back glass trim. The small chrome grille at the rear of the bonnet edge however, is missing, and rather than the canister type air cleaner assembly, the 3 SU's have Warneford "pancake" air cleaners which were a common period type modification. The body is clean and straight showing no signs of collision damage, however there are several "pings and dings" around the body, as well as typical minor damage around the bonnet nose opening. The motif bar is missing. The front subframes are pristine and still retain their original paint color, opalescent silver grey. The black leather seat covers are dry rotted away, however several other interior items might be able to be cleaned up and re-used. The headliner is intact but dried out. The rear hatch area floor pan is super clean and the fuel tank shows no signs of rust. I put a battery in the car and turned the original, FACTORY key (which says "WILMOT BREEDEN", and is on the FACTORY key fob) the starter engages, however the engine is seized and will need a rebuild as a result of the car's 30 year storage. The odometer reads 64,394, and in speaking to the prior owner, I believe this mileage to be true and correct. The prior owner also states that the numbers are matching; the engine has NOT been swapped. The gear lever engages all gears, but the clutch and brake hydraulics will need to be rebuilt. The wiring loom appears to be in decent shape with no bodging or splicing and might be made to function, but should be replaced as a matter of course. All bumpers are in place with no damage and fair chrome. This car will need a total restoration, but is far too clean and complete to be parted. This would make a very nice project for someone wanting to restore, own, and drive an example of this legendary British sports car. I have been an E-Type owner for over 15 years, having restored my own 64 FHC, however I don't have the time to take on this project, due to another project, a boat.
