Sellers description:
68 Jaguar E-Type Series 1-1/2 FHC. I have owned it for about 10 years, and during that time I have basically done a cosmetic restoration, changing the original Pale Primrose exterior to black and had the interior redone from its original tan to grey.
Other than that this car is very original. By looking on the website XKE Data, the build date appears to be mid December 1967. The engine is original with the serial number 7E15101-9 matching the s/n stamped on the data plate and by looking at XKE Data that number runs pretty much in line with the engine numbers installed around that time. The body number 4E26663 on the car matches the plate, and the gearbox number on the plate is EE1698. Having worked on it you can tell that things like wiring, most hoses, etc are 40 plus years old.
I purchased it from a Jag enthusiast in Tallahassee over 10 years ago and he said it was original but needed cosmetic work. The chrome and wire wheels are all original, and in great shape, and so is the glass which has the word Triples on each piece with no cracks , pitts or scratches except on the drivers side glass you can see a small area of light scratching just above the door handle from rolling the window up and down.
I had to change out a bad fuel pump, and did so with a replica, but an electronic one, but it still ticks... like it is supposed to. Also the original fuel bowl filter has been replaced with an inline filter. I have changed out some of the rubber items like some door and rear window seal. I can't say my job with the rear window seal is as good as I would have liked, so even though I have a new seal for the windscreen, I didn't try to tackle that. If I were to keep the car, I would take it to a professional and have them install the front, reinstall the rear and reseat the rear window chrome. I also replaced the jets in the carbs with new jets. There is a new battery of course, and the tires... (sorry tyres) are new with less than 200 miles on them. They are not the original size, I replaced them with P205-75R15.
I welcome any E- Type enthusiasts to chime in on anything you see in the pics or with my write up that may not be correct so I can make any mistakes known.
The car runs pretty good for being owned by someone that isn't a mechanic. I did the carb work ( must have had them off 8 times trying to get the floats right ), and it starts pretty good and runs good, but I am sure a jag person would fine tune them properly and do all the little things that these cars need for the most efficent performance. Just last week I did a compression test after warming the engine up, and the results of that test are:
Cylinder 1 -130# cylinder 2-130#, cylinder 3-135# cylinder 4- 130# cylinder 5- 140# and cylinder 6- 140#
The transmission shifts great, the clutch works just like it is supposed to, all the gauges work, the clock works.. most of the time, it quit so I sprayed it with some electrical connection cleaner and it worked again, so it must be in need of a good cleaning. The brakes work but take more pedal pressure than I think they are supposed to. It could use a brake flush or brake job, and it also needs a good engine/ radiator flush... from sitting way more than it should have. The radio does not work, and the rear window defroster was not hooked back up when I reinstalled the rear window. You will see three small dimples along the bonnet chrome I tried to point out in the pics.
The interior was redone in 2003 by a big time shop in Tampa which cost me $5500, and I must tell you I didn't get my money's worth. It ok but not great, and for that amount it should be great.
When I refinished the car to black, I used base coat/ clear coat and It turned out pretty good. There were 2 small rust holes, one behind the drivers rear wheel and one behind the drivers front wheel. I would say after exposing them they were maybe the size of two quarters side by side. New sheet metal was welded in. Everwhere else appears real solid.

I was the original purchaser of this car and have the original numbers and window sticker. Do you know its whereabouts?
