Auction description:
This 1968 Jaguar XKE coupe is a Series 1.5 example that was reportedly purchased new at Topeka Import Plaza and remained with its original owner until acquired by the current owner in 1975. Power is from a 4.2-liter inline-six paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, and the car is finished in light blue over a blue interior. Maintenance in the last three years included a fresh battery, new brake and clutch cylinders, carburetor adjustment, and a tune-up. This Series 1.5 XKE is offered on the owner’s behalf with service records since 1976, spares, a jack and spare tire, factory literature, and a clean Kansas title in the owner’s name.
Some cracks are noted in the light blue paint, and the right front fender was repaired and repainted after the car reportedly received a minor parking lot ding in the mid-1990s. There is a rust hole near the right rear wheel opening.
The cabin is trimmed in dark blue leather with medium blue carpets and door panels. The stock air conditioning system has been removed, though parts have been retained and are included in the sale.
The speedometer is inoperative, leaving the 5-digit odometer stopped at 67k miles. The current owner estimates that he has added approximately 20k miles in 43 years, and total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Service in July 2018 included a new battery and carburetor tuning. A tune-up was performed in 2015, with new brake and clutch cylinders installed at that time as well.
The seller reports that a rear resonator is burnt out, though a new exhaust system is included in the sale. Oil seepage is also noted.
A jack, a spare tire, factory literature, and service records covering the seller’s ownership are included in the sale along with spares such as new weather seals and a triple carburetor setup.
