This 1968 Jaguar XKE Series 1.5 coupe is finished in beige over black leather, and is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked to a four-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 15″ wire-spoke steel wheels, power-assisted disc brakes, triple windshield wipers, a cassette radio, and a heater. The car was reportedly kept in a collection in Illinois for many years before being acquired by the seller in Oregon in 2024. This XKE Series 1.5 coupe is now offered with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.
The Series 1.5 E-Types featured exposed headlights shared with Series II cars but retained Series I equipment such as a small front grille opening, turn signals mounted above the front bumper, and taillights situated above the split rear bumper. This example is finished in beige and was repainted some time ago. There is a dent on the left fender and headlight trim and the brake lights do not work.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by rounded knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Nokian One All Season tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors. There is a shimmy in the steering when traveling straight around 40 mph, which the seller attributes to worn front suspension bushings.
The cabin features bucket seats upholstered in black leather along with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. Interior appointments include black vinyl dash trim, a sliding rearview mirror, latch-and-link lap belts, a Technics cassette stereo, and a heater. There is a tear in the headliner above the rear cargo area, and the seller notes that the emergency brake light only turns off if downward pressure is applied to the handle. Cracks on the upholstery are shown up close in the gallery.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames a Smiths 160-mph speedometer and 6k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage are located in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 78k miles, which is not considered to be accurate. Approximately 1,200 miles were added under current ownership, and total mileage is unknown.
The 4.2-liter inline-six features dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and was factory rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. There is an oil leak.
Engine stamping 7E17295-9, a corresponding number is listed on the chassis plate.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a full-synchromesh four-speed manual transmission. The seller notes an improper rear muffler hanger.
