This 1966 Jaguar XKE started life as a right-hand-drive 2+2 and was modified with hand-formed aluminum bodywork at Lynx Cars Limited of St. Leonards-on-Sea, UK. Initially fitted with a D-Type-style body, the car is noted to have been used as a promotional vehicle in the 1970s before being sold to a private owner. In 2014 the car exchanged hands and was returned to Lynx, where it was refurbished and updated with XKSS-style alterations. Power comes from a 4.2-liter inline-six fitted with triple Weber carburetors, while shifting is through a four-speed manual transmission. The interior features green leather upholstery, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, and Sabelt harnesses. Further equipment includes a black soft top, a luggage rack, a side-exit exhaust pipe, Raydot-style mirrors, Koni shocks, and Dunlop-style 16” wheels. Acquired by the current owner and imported to the US in 2015, this XKSS re-creation is now offered on dealer consignment with transferable New York State registration.
The original XKSS was built in 1957 as a road-going adaptation of Jaguar’s Le Mans-winning D-Type race car. Lynx produced re-creations of both the XKSS and D-Type using a riveted monocoque tub and bodywork constructed from hand-formed aluminum. This car is said to be the first D-Type re-creation completed by Lynx and used as a display car in 1975. It was modified again at Lynx approximately a decade ago with XKSS-style bodywork.
The car features riveted aluminum body panels that have been refinished in black. The louvered clamshell hood wears leather retaining straps, and the upward-opening doors are fitted with fixed acrylic windows and Raydot-style mirrors. Additional details include covered headlights, a wraparound windshield, a folding black soft top, a luggage rack, and a side-exit exhaust pipe covered with a perforated heat shield.
Dunlop-style 16” wheels are mounted with 6.00” Blockley tires. The car rides on Koni shocks, while braking is handled by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear units.
The right-hand-drive cockpit is trimmed in green leather over the seats, dash pad, center console, and door panels. Sabelt four-point harnesses have been installed, and a torn strap on the inside of the soft top can be viewed in the gallery.
The Moto-Lita steering wheel sits ahead of a 180-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil pressure and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 345 miles.
The replacement 4.2-liter straight-six is equipped with triple Weber DCOE carburetors and tubular exhaust headers. An aluminum radiator is fitted with an electric puller fan up front. An oil change was performed in 2024.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The car is titled using the chassis number 1E50175, which is consistent with a right-hand-drive XKE 2+2 built in 1966.
The vehicle does not have a title and is being sold on its transferable registration, which serves as the ownership document in New York State.
