Car was at auction 5/10/06
http://www.brightwells.com/3rdparty/orphanspress/classiccars/results_cars.php?sale=100506#

Auction description:
Body colour: Gunmetal
Date Manufactured: 1968
Registration Number: WGC 234F
Chassis Number: 1E/51174
Driver Side: right
History:
WGC 234F was first registered in 1968 and is a so-called Series 1? car which looks identical to its S1 predecessor apart from exposed headlights, more comfortable seats and an all-synchro gearbox. This particular car has the 2+2 bodywork, stretched by 9" and with a raised roof-line to allow the fitment of XK150-style rear seats. Powered by the same fabulous 265bhp XK4.2 litre engine, it is still a magnificent looking car that can carry four people. Paintwork is Gunmetal grey metallic with a red hide interior, colours which perfectly suit the svelte lines of the coup? body.

The car had two owners before being purchased by the vendor in 1990 with 72,000 miles showing, and believed to be correct. The present age-related registration dates to this time and replaces the previous personalised number. In the 15 years of current ownership, some 19,000 miles have been covered entirely without mishap and the car has been used most carefully and only in the summer months.

A stainless-steel exhaust system has been fitted, and bills for thorough maintenance and servicing totalling some ?15,000 since 1990 are included with the car; also a V5C document and recent MoT certificate. The car is currently taxed (free, of course, for a pre-1973 vehicle) and is in everyday very pleasurable use.

A lovely example of the immensely popular E-Type, the car has a continuous history of gentle, careful and enthusiastic use and is ready to continue to provide magnificent stylish motoring in the classic Jaguar tradition.
Guide price 9,500

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
