The first E Type Jaguar with disc brakes and independent suspension all round was announced in March 1961 as an XK150 replacement. The first of the E Type line was powered by the familar 3791cc six cylinder XK engine, which produced 265bhp and, thanks to aerodynamic slippery bodywork of the open roadster or fixed head closed coupe bodies offered - initially with faired-in headlamps, resulted in sensational performance.
In 1964, the model was improved with a 4235cc engine. The 2+2 fixed head joined the catalogue from 1966 as was labour saving automatic transmission - mainly for the vital US market. The 5343cc V12 S3s followed from 1971.
The Staffordshire owner, the sixth since the righthand car on offer was manufactured in 1968, describes his 4.2-litre 2+2 fixed head coupe with manual transmission as being in very good condition. Presented in red with claimed to be original black leather interior, the current owner has owned this car for the last fifteen years, carrying out annual services and MOTs which authenticate the total mileage. In fact, over the last sixteen years, the mileage has only increased from 62,325 miles to the recent reading of 68,100 miles indicated on entry day. ú2100 was spent on the last annual service. A truly exceptional E Type with impeccable history - "a pleasure to own and drive", says the vendor.
