    History 1966 Jaguar E-Type 2+2 (1 E 750001 BW)

After 50 years the very first Left hand Drive 2+2 E-Type is dicovered in the Netherlands.
The car carries chassis number commencing at 1 E 75001 BW, Engine number 7 E 75012-9 and Body number 4 E 50008 and Gearbox nr. EJ 10008. At this moment we have not found the body nr. Tag, but all other numbers match with the VIN Plate. According to the Heritage Certificate it was produced 19 October 1965 and dispatched 26 Januari 1966 via the US importer Jaguar Cars, NY. The relatively long period between manufacturing and dispatch could indicate that the car was used for development or demonstrations for some weeks. The original color of this first 2+2 car for the market was Cream with Black interior. This is definitively the earliest LHD 2+2 car. Most likely produced directly after the RHD car with chassis nr. 1 E 50003
It was delivered (even before the official introduction in the USA) to Gary Fairmont Filosa. Jaguar often sold their first cars of new models to celebrities. This could be the person that was famous for his book "The Surfer's Almanac" When this car was dispatched, he was 35 years old. Mr. Filosa passed away in Iowa City in 2013.

Dutch Jaguar enthousiast and mechanic Derk Geurts, now residing in Luxembourg, bought the car at Classic Sportcars in Hoofddorp in 1989. At that time he was just 24 years old. The car was imported from the US in May 1989. This company is already out of business for many years. At that time they had no clue about the significance of this car, nor could they tell anything about the history. The car carries a key tag (starting key nr. 947) from Tim Gallagher Ass. 700 State Hwy 436 Altemonte Springs (North of Orlando ) in Florida and on an old picture a shipping paper is visible from Brunswick Georgia to Antwerpen. Brunswick is about the same distance from Altemonte Springs as Miami - the other logical harbor for export.

As there was no US-Title with the car, Derk went to the Dutch RDW first and showed them a copy of the import document. This was sufficient and Derk bought the car. We have to remember that in the 1980's Titles were often taken in by the customs when you visited them with the imported car and paid the Import tax, VAT and Dutch BVB taxes at their desk.
The car was in need for full restoration although some work was already done in America. Derk disassembled the car and welded in new floors and inner sills. The body is on a rolling frame. He preserved the car with etch primer. The bonnet is in parts now, the engine is still assembled. The IRS is mostly assembled.

The car was stored at the farmhouse of his aunt in Valburg in the Netherlands.
While working on the car in his leisure time, Derk had the interior parts stored in the attic of his aunts house. The car was in a separate barn next to the house. Unfortunately a fire destroyed the house in 2000 Luckely the car in the barn survived, but the lose interior, including the windows and some tires, were lost. Such a dissaster can also be part of the history of a classic car !
Derk solved this by buying another 1966 E-Type 2+2 parts car providing him with all the necessary interior parts.

When he moved to Luxembourg, Derk had no time to work on the car during the occasions when he was visiting his parents and by now he realises he will not have the time to finish this car due to a high workload in his company ClassicJags Luxembourg.
Therefore he approached me to help him selling the car to another Jaguar collector who is able to pick up the restoration again and finish this car.
The passing away of his aunt in early 2016 and the sales of her house urged the pick up of the 2+2 and it is now in my barn in Oirschot.

Being the first recorded LHD 2+2 this is a unique species in the history of the Jaguar E-Type. It deserves a place in a museum or in a private collection and hopefully the public will be able to see this car in reality at car shows or other events when it is brought back to its former glory.

Note: Although i try to be as accurate as possible, no guaranties can be given as we are focussing on a 50 year old car. I did my best to list the history as good as possible, but i would welcome any additional information.

For Sale: A unique car in the history of the Jaguar E-Type. The very first Left Hand Drive 2+2, Chassis number 1E75001. Built 19 October 1965 in Coventry by the pre-development department of Jaguar . Meant to serve the request from customers for more space for longer persons, more luggage space and the fitment possibility of the Borg Warner automatic gearbox. This car was first delivered to celebrity Gary Fairmont Filosa , author of the famous Surfer's Amanac in the USA. The car came from Florida to a classic car importer in Holland in 1989.
The car still has its matching numbers and was granted with a Heritage Certificate by the very excited Heritage Trust team. After 25 years of storage in the Netherlands the car was retrieved when the owner of a real estate passed away. The discovery of this car is recently covered by Philip Porter in the June edition of E-Type Jag and by Paul Skilleter in the October edition of Jaguar Enthousiast and by the Dutch Auto Motor Klassiek Magazine. The leading picture in this advertisement shows Sir William Lyons at the introduction of the car to the US-Press in Januari 1966.
The car is still complete, but now partly dismantled for total restoration. Some new panels are already welded in and some are ready to be mounted. Engine, gearbox and IRS are kept as assemblies. The owner since 1989 is a Jaguar mechanic in Luxembourg with a busy workshop. Regrettably he experienced that he could not find the time to finish the restoration by himself because he has too much projects going on. We are looking for a proud new owner who will finish the restoration and be the custodian for this car in the future.
A more interesting provenance is hardly possible. We cannot wait to see this car appear on concourses all over Europe.
If you are seriously interested please ask for the total History story of this car and we will be happy to show it to you. It is currently located near Eindhoven in the South of the Netherlands. Thanks for watching!

    Fahrzeugbeschreibung

I am looking for a Jaguar lover interested in owning and restoring this very first LHD Jaguar E-Type 2+2 FHC.

It is produced 19-0ctober-1965 in Coventry and sold to a celebrity in the US early 1966.

On the picture Sir William Lyons shows the car to the press. Original color scheme; creme with black leather and whitewall tires.

In 1989 the car was sold from a classic car dealer in Florida to a Dutchman in the Netherlands, where it was stored even since waiting for restoration. This car is a unique piece in the history of the Jaguar E-Type and instead of storage in a barn it deserves to be brought back to its original beauty and appear on concourses by a proud new owner.

Please mail or call for more information. Thanks for watching !
