Sellers comment:
This is a 1967 XKE 2+2 4.2 automatic that was not equipped with either air-conditioning or power steering. The car was last registered for use in 1984, when the engine and trans were apparently removed to correct an unknown problem and the vehicle was never reassembled. There is a long story on the title, but it is fundamentally a lien sale that occurred years ago between the repairer and the owner, who were actually a divorced couple. Documents to complete the lien sale are available and go with the car, but have never been filed. In any event, the car has not been on the road for about 20 years, so it’s no longer on the California DMV records.
From the ID Plate;
Car Number 1E76270BW
Body Number 51499
Trans Number EJ14458
Engine Number 7E51522-9
Vehicle Condition
The car was owned by a lady who apparently used it for running around town and to drive her kids to the beach and back. The mileage shows as 11049, but I have no idea of the actual mileage on the vehicle. She was apparently the second owner and, while it was her baby, she also used it as a daily driver (funny how some people treat their kids). I understand the car has always been in CA and, by the looks of the undercarriage and general appearance of the body this would seem to be correct. There is some surface rust on the car, and small amounts of filler where the car was dinged, but no apparent rotting from rust invasion, except on the passenger door in the usual places. Some underpanels are deformed from riding over objects, but nothing too extreme or unexpected. Basically this is a very sound example of a 67 with normal wear and tear on the body.
The car is not complete, but is an excellent start for restoration. Judging by the parts I’ve removed, none of the fasteners were seized, so it’s likely that the car will come apart easily for work. Mechanically, I have no idea how well any of the running gear will perform, but it all seems to be there with the exception of the items shown below.
Parts that are obviously missing or damaged are;
ENGINE COMPARTMENT; The carbs and inlet manifold, carb linkage system, exhaust manifold and exhaust system are missing. There are some engine sheetmetal mudguards missing, but I have acquired most of them in a used condition. The passenger side engine subframe and the front engine subframe have been cut and welded at some point, probably to remove the engine. The radiator has an aftermarket electric fan and the original two-blade fan and cowl have been removed.
INTERIOR; The radio console has been disassembled and ‘stored’ in a box. Parts may be missing and the radio is gone. The dash pad is cracked. The interior was ‘improved’ at some point using heavy vinyl material in a south-of-the- border upholstery store. Structurally, the seats are in generally good condition and there does not appear to be any undue rust on the interior floor panels. The headliner is sagging. The steering wheel is very restorable and the gauges/switches are complete. The rear hatch support is missing. The spare is simply a wire wheel with no tire.
EXTERIOR; Side and rear glass is intact, but chrome surrounds are pitted. Included in the sale are a new correct windshield and various new rubber seals (for sills, real hatch, etc). All rubber needs replacing. Bumpers and overriders are included, but will need rechroming at least. Unless otherwise noted, there is no obvious rust on this vehicle. Wheels are knock-off wires, but they need either a complete rebuild or replacement. Some of the light covers are intact and the headlight ‘sugar-scoops’ will need replacing, at least on one side, where it was cut to fit the body during a repair. I believe the car was originally a bright red, but was painted maroon by the second owner.
I began a restoration a couple of years ago, but too many projects got in the way. I had the hood dismantled professionally and repaired panel by panel by stripping down to bare metal and repairing any indiscretions. The hood was recently assembled to check for true and then torn apart again for paint. The substructure brackets have been glued in place and the paintwork is mainly in primer at this point. The nose corners need finishing, filling and sanding, but all pieces are fundamentally straight and ready for assembly. I have obtained a new hardware kit for assembling the hood and a new stone guard to ensure that the hood structure was correct.
Various parts that I’ve defined as missing may be in boxes that came with the car.
While most parts are with the car and the car is sound and restorable, this vehicle represents either a complete rebuild or a complete dismantling for parts. There are a great many usable parts on this car and, unlike many restoration projects, the buyer should not have to deal with the replacement of vast amounts of body panels that have been consumed by rust. Included with the car is a spare partially dismantled 71 engine (no heads, etc.) that has seen better days. The engine includes an oil pump, sump, crank, pistons and block that are probably all usable.

Fired & drove the car New Years day 2008.
Alive & roaring again after death & dismemberment in the States early 1980's ...,all that hunting for missing bits worldwide & pissing about is now yielding results!!!!
Soooo, now we are onto the paint & trim.
Rust is NOT an issue with this car, original floor pans & sills and not a hint of corrosion, amazing for an E type but true!!
This is one Cat that came close to using up all it's lives as so many 2+2's do when they become parts candidates (as this one once was)
