Video of 1E76372BW

Pekka's E-Type

From the pits of the Ahvenisto race track. Too bad I didn't have time to get a video camera myself or have one of my kids use one as there are only a couple of photos from the action. I had replaced all front suspension bushes the previous night and had the car adjusted for toe-in, castor and camber just hours before driving from Helsinki to this track. It's a very nice track with a lot of elevation, but also a bit dangerous. I had brand new Dunlop SP41 radials so I had no feel for how they would behave but it was a pleasant surprise, actually I could not get them to slide at all, steering was very neutral! fantastic.

Has a Tudor-Webasto sunroof fitted (original one for an E-type 2+2) with the wind deflector and partly upgraded interior (more leather) which is partly black. The car is very original and I have found the cooling, performance and ventilation to be a fantastic compromise. The Ser. 1 2+2 already had fresh air vents to footwells and parcel trays. The all-synchro 4 sp with overdrive gives a relaxing 2000rpm at 100km/h. 3.31 rear axle. I have enjoyed the car for more than ten years and have driven accross Europe several times with my family. However now that I have three children I think it is time to let it go. This car is for sale.

Now having looked at a lot of "restored" cars I have to add, that in this case the restoration did NOT include replacing original parts with aftermarket, repro and other cheap components made in China or where ever. Everything was cleaned and repaired, but not replated or repainted for minor signs of age and use.
The manual conversion was done with 100% Jaguar parts, all missing or broken items have been replaced with original second hand parts or quality new parts made in England, mostly bought from RM & J Smith and Martin Robey Ltd. All the gauges, engine and drivetrain, the dash (&top), steering wheel and even chrome (except the front overriders and bonnet beams) are original parts, and more than 50% of interior panels and fittings are original parts. Only most of the leather, headliner and carpets have been replaced with new materials bought from BAS and M. Robey. Lots of interesting details specific to a green interior (sunvisor details, a-post panels). Original red and blue interiors share a lot of these too, but not all colours. (like green headliner & plastic strip). All the parts specific for a Series 1 automatic including hose clips, kick-down linkage, centre console, radio facia etc. have been saved together with the BW8 box and should IMO follow the car. The car also has some details of it's 40 years on two continents visible, so if you're looking for a car that is OLD but 100% ready for the road, and not like it was made yesterday, this is a car to look for.

What´s the price level of your car ?

2007-11-04 12:40:02 | Pekka T. writes:

European. I do honestly not think that anyone would reimport this car back to USA, especially with the current USD exchange rate. But of course still buying a $20.000 USD car and bringing it to this level mechanically and esthetically would probably cost anyway another $40.000 USD. The latest German Motor-Klassik magazine (11/2007) suggests €43.000 euros for a S1 4.2L 2+2 in good condition, but as there are a couple of small chips in the paint (I will buy more of the Spies-Hecker paint for touch-ups) and the car needs new tires soon, I am ready to sell her for €40.000 euros. That includes also a top quality (Special car Covers') two part tailored to fit car cover that I have used during these 11 years to keep the paint like new, as well as surplus trim material, paint, the original parts for the auto-box, poly-bushes and front rubber mats (never used). Also in the "action photos" you can see that this is a really usable family coupé. Please feel free to e-mail me, if you are seriously thinking of getting a Dark green Series 1 2+2 with a manual gearbox. I doubt very much that you could find a better one. Besides this is the original color combination (except for some more black leather) and almost all of the green fittings in the interior are impossible to get these days. BRG was not used in 1966, but few people know that. Needless to say, I just love this paint!

Cylinder head professionally rebuilt in Dec. 2010. Runs just great now, I'm going to take her to a dyno and possibly try richer needles to better suit modern fuel, especially at idle (too rich.)
