Sellers comment:
classic 1968 Jaguar 2 + 2 coupe. It has tan leather interior, 4 speed transmission, 4.2 Motor-6 cylinder, Michelin tires (with 80% tread) & a new matching spare, the car is all original. Looks great and drives great, a real head turner. Why am I selling it? Well, I simply have too many toys. If you have negative feedback then don't bid on this car unless you can convence me there is a valid reason for it.
Vehicle Condition
The motor, transmission, and clutch are in great shape and this car has plenty of power. This Jag could easily be a daily driver. It has a NC inspection. The rear hatch glass is cracked but does not leak---I have a replacement glass that goes with the car. The speedometer & tachometer works part time, probably a loose connection somewhere. The radio idoes not work.

Sellers description:
1968 Series 1.5 Jaguar XKE 2+2
This is a beautiful black Series 1 1/2 E-type 2+2. I think that the XKEs of the 1960's are amongst the most attractive cars ever made and this 1968 2+2 is no exception. The beautiful curves are hard not to love, it is truly a timeless design. This car's beautiful black paint only adds to its aesthetics. The car's beauty continues into the interior where white leather abounds. The 2+2 design offers a lot more practicality than the Roadster and even the FHC (Fixed-Head Coupe) because there is a back seat for extra passengers which can be folded forward to increase cargo capacity when extra seating is not needed.
The car is as nice to drive as it is to look at. The 4.2 litre Dual Overhead Cam inline-6 engine has plenty of power to pass other cars even on the steep mountain highways of the Colorado Rockies. When I first got the car I noticed that it would emit a small puff of smoke when the gas pedal was pressed (when accelerating). But that seems to have stopped since I added a smoke-reducing oil additive. This car has the four-speed manual transmission with synchros. It shifts well and adds to the fun factor. Driving this iconic 1960's sports car is a great and unique experience.
As for the car's history, I know nothing. I bought it a year ago, but I don't know how many previous owners it has had, what work has been done to it, what kind of maintenance history it has, or anything else of that nature. It shows 48,554 miles which to my knowledge are originial and accurate. I would be happy to give the winning bidder the e-mail address of the person I bought it from if you wish to research the car's history.
I do know, however, that this is a matching numbers car. I didn't check the gearbox, but the engine and chassis match the numbers stamped on the VIN plate. This car is original!
1968 was a year of changes for the E-Type as safety and emissions regulations forced design changes, and thus it is called the Series 1.5. This car has the sleeker turn signal and tailight design of the Series I (the Series II had a bulkier design that really detracted from the E-Type's appeal) while adopting the more efficient un-covered headlight design of the Series II. This was also the first year for the dual-Stromberg carbs which gave improved fuel economy over the triple-Weber set-up.
The car is in very good shape. There are only a handful of very small imperfections in the beautiful black paint. There appears to be some damage/corrosion on the bottom of the body near the driver's door, but it is hardly noticeable. Many of the dash instruments have stopped working. The speedometer, tachometer, clock, radio, water temp gauge, and gas gauge have all stopped working, leaving only the oil pressure gauge and battery meter. The steering wheel is cracked, but still entirely driveable. While the turn signals and tailights work fine, the brake lights do not work, nor does the reverse lamp. It does have a new/rebuilt alternator and fuel pump, both of which are only about a year old.
I hate to sell this beautiful car but unfortunately I can no longer afford to keep it. The winning bidder will certainly be pleased with this neat car. Please feel free to ask questions using the "Ask seller a question" link near the top right of the page. the car comes with a full-size original spare, a replacement rear hatch glass, and the original owner's manual and shop manual. The reserve is set WELL below what I paid only a year ago!
If you hold realistic expectations for a 36-year-old un-restored Jaguar, then your expectations should easily be met as this is really a fantastic car. As mentioned above, the speedometer, tachometer, clock, radio, water temperature gauge, and gas gauge do not work. Also, there appears to be a little bit of body corrosion or damage or something below the drivers door on the underside of the body. While the turn signals and tailights work fine, the brake lights do not. Also, the reverse lamp has recently stopped working I think. Only one of the two radiator fans works. The car smokes a little bit when accelerating, but smoke-reducing oli additives seem to fix this. It leaks a little bit of oil all along the exhaust. It has a new/rebuilt alternator and fuel pump. I have tried my best to show all flaws and fully disclose everything I know to be wrong with the car. The winning bidder will really be pleased with this car!
