Beautiful Series 1.5 E-Type design

Fantastic specification

Starts and runs very well according to reports

Original upholstery

Good overall condition

Nice, simple specification

Seemingly a very nice place to be, the cabin of this 1969 Jaguar E-Type is adorned in plenty of black leather. Indeed, the seats, dashboard, door cards and sills are covered whilst black carpets complete the look. Providing the only solace of contrast is the stunning Moto Litta steering wheel complete with three spokes and its wood rim.

For the most part, the interior leathers appear to be in good condition. However, one must notice the slight creasing present in the seats. Though for a fully original interior according to the Classic Car Research report, they are in very impressive shape.

Throughout the dashboard and centre console, dials and switches form the perfect details and all look to be in good shape. Indeed, nothing appears to show any signs of wear whilst the report indicates that everything on board works well. That includes the aftermarket Panasonic stereo that should allow for more flexibility than the original unit with modern technology.

In the well-lined boot, one will find the classic toolkit including the spinner removal tool and hammer. They both fit in their own elegant pouch.

The Exterior

Stunning early Jaguar E-Type styling

Exquisite red colour

Chrome work looks fantastic throughout

Finished in this original coat of red paint, it presents very well and the chrome work throughout provides great detail. Furthermore, the black fabric roof is a nice contrast to the rest of the body, despite showing some creasing like the seats.

Being a 50 year-old coat of paint, the body work obviously features some signs of wear and tear. Indeed, places like the nose show some chipping whilst the door handle areas present the odd scrape. Whilst shiny, the chrome work is also not in full factory condition with some imperfections and marks to see up close. However, from a general view, the car is more than presentable and to know it still wears its original frock is impressive to say the least.

The car sits on a set of gorgeous wire spoke wheels. Presenting very few scuff marks or signs of wear, they look great on the car. Furthermore, they are complete with a set of non-original winged spinner knock-offs modified back following their 1968 outlawing. The wheels are fitted with a set of matching Pirelli tyres, a general sign of good maintenance.

The Mechanics

4.2-litre straight six, 265hp

Engine bay looks great under the clamshell bonnet

Starts easy and runs well

In its day, prior to the launch of the bigger 12-cylinder engine, this 4.2-litre straight six topped the E-Type range with its 265hp and smooth delivery. Indeed, even today many enthusiasts gravitate towards the 4.2-litre cars before the V12 models.

This car’s straight-six presents wonderfully under the elegant clamshell bonnet. The head itself and manifold are sculptural and neat whilst the intake and carburettors prove this is a purposeful motor capable of good power figures. The whole thing is nice and clean with the extensive report mentioning no leaks.

Furthermore, the car reportedly starts and runs well connected to the four-speed manual transmission. In addition, the suspension components all look healthy, as the report confirms.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
