    Auctioneer's description:

    Estimate: £60,000 - £70,000
    Registration Number: EU taxes paid
    Chassis Number: 1R12036

One of the greatest post-war sports cars, Jaguar's E-Type made immediate headlines on its launch in March 1961. A direct descendent of the C- and D-Type models that so dominated 1950s sports car racing, its 3.8 litre twin cam engine produced 265bhp and was mated to a Moss four-speed gearbox.

Beneath the beautiful William Lyons/Malcolm Sayer-styled body, available in coupe or roadster form, the steel monocoque chassis sported all independent suspension mounted on detachable subframes, using double coil springs/dampers and swing arms at the rear, with torsion bars and wishbones at the front. Brakes were discs all round, mounted inboard at the back.

October 1964 saw the debut of the 4.2 litre model; apart from the capacity increase from 3781cc to 4235cc and improved torque. Hallmarks of Series 2 cars are open headlights without glass covers, a wrap-around rear bumper, re-positioned and larger front indicators and tail lights below the bumpers. Series II cars also benefit from better cooling aided by an enlarged "mouth" and twin electric fans. Stopping distances are also greatly improved by uprated brakes. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam covers to a more industrial "ribbed" appearance.

The interior and dashboard were also redesigned; rocker switches that met US health and safety regulations were substituted for toggle switches. New seats were fitted, which offered its occupants increased comfort. conditioning and power steering were available as factory options.

The E-type on offer today is finished in the rare and highly sort after shade of Ascot fawn, with complementary black leather interior. Described to be in excellent overall order , According to the vendor the car has been in an air conditioned garages for all of its life and has only had 2 owners from new.

1R12035 was subject to a re-spray in September 2012 and is reported to be running and driving beautifully. This matching number, original series II roadster has to be one of the best available on the market today. With prices of series 1 cars soaring over £100,000 this low ownership, low mile, highly original car is for the true Jaguar connoisseur. Not to be missed.

Car to be at auction 7/13

    Auction description:
    Silverstone Classic Sale
1970 Jaguar E-Type Series II Roadster
    Lot No.: TBA

    Registration: Unreg'd
    Chassis Number: 1R12035
    Engine Number: 7R9743
    Number of cylinders: 6
    CC: 4200
    Year of Manufacture: 1970
    Estimate (£): 50,000 - 60,000

This 1970 Series II E-Type Roadster finished in the unusual, yet very period Ascot Fawn colour, is worthy of a second look. Boasting a claimed sub-23,000 miles from new and reputedly having had only two owners in its lifetime, this left-hand drive car has clearly been cherished and saved from the molestation which often comes through poor restoration or unnecessary upgrades.

Retaining its original and correct six-cylinder 4.2litre engine, which again portrays all the signs of limited use but consistent care, the power plant fired up easily and held good oil pressure. The gear change was precise and steering accurate on our short test drive, however we would recommend to any future buyer that they budget for a new clutch in the next few thousand miles as the biting point is quite high. That aside, she's mechanically sound.

The Ascot Fawn paint is not for everybody but it is refreshingly unusual to see this colour on an E-Type. It was repainted in 2012 before export to the UK and this was done to a high standard and is in keeping with the patina of the car's interior. We would however recommend 'flatting back' this fresh paint in order to lose that 'enamel' look that comes with fresh paint. The black leather interior and carpets are in honest and usable condition, but not vying for the attention of any concours judges. The soft-top hood is in very good order and provides a great fit - something not easy to achieve! The car does have a tonneau for when the hood is down, but one may choose to replace this as its aged more harshly than the rest of the car.

Imported from the USA in September of 2012 but with full EU taxes paid, this car has American title and a full UK MoT to February 2014 making it ready for registration.

I purchased this car on 21 March 2014 from Racing Green Cars Ltd. The details provided were accurate and I have thoroughly enjoyed owning this car.

I am hoping to create a history file for this car and would appreciate any help available from any of the previous 2 owners.

    Best wishes
