This 1970 Jaguar XKE is a Series II roadster that is finished in red over black leather and powered by a 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six that was rebuilt in 2015 and is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car spent time in New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Florida before being acquired by the seller in 2020. Subsequent service has included the addition of an aftermarket air conditioning system and an electronic ignition module as well as replacement of the alternator, starter, battery, and tires. This XKE is offered with engine rebuild photos, service records, a March 2020 appraisal, an owner’s manual, wheel change tools, and a clean Florida title in the name of a trust belonging to the seller and his wife.
The body is finished in red, rust repairs were performed on the floor pans and rocker panels in 2018, following which the latter were repainted. The vinyl soft top and various pieces of chrome trim were replaced in the 1990s.
Chrome-finished 15” knock-off wire wheels wear Coker Classic redline tires with 2020 date codes. A matching spare is housed in the trunk. Servo-assisted four-wheel disc brakes include inboard rear units. New front brake rotors and pads were installed in 2015, as were replacement mounts for the independent rear suspension.
The cockpit is trimmed in black leather and vinyl along with color-matched carpeting and lap belts. An aftermarket air conditioning system was installed in November 2020, at which time a vintage-look modern stereo was also fitted along with two USB ports and two 12V power outlets.
The steering wheel exhibits wear on its wood rim and sits ahead of Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows 54k miles, fewer than 500 of which have been added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown. Auxiliary gauges, a clock, and a row of rocker switches line the center dash and the seller notes that the clock does not work.
A 2015 overhaul of the 4.2-liter DOHC inline-six by Hot Rod Engineering in Naples, Florida, included machining the block and crankshaft in addition to installation of new pistons, rings, and resized bearings. The cylinder head was overhauled with new stainless-steel valves. An aluminum radiator was installed in 2018. Work performed by Bob Sellers Auto Clinic in Daytona Beach, Florida, in 2020 and 2021 included installation of an electronic ignition module as well as replacement of the starter, battery and cables, alternator, and spark plugs.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual gearbox. Both clutch hydraulic cylinders were replaced in 2015. The floor pans were covered with black undercoating following the 2018 body repairs.
Number 7R8180-9 stamped on the engine block and chassis data plate, while the replacement cylinder head is stamped 7E10099-9.
