Seen at the RM Classic Car Auction at the Ameila Island Concours, March 13, 2004. Strange car. I am not a Series 2 expert by any stretch, but I saw some oddities with this one... maybe somebody can clear it up for me:

* The data plate had the Body and Engine Numbers swapped(!)

* The exhaust manifold was like nothing I have ever seen on an E-type.

* The Intake setup was also very unusual... maybe from an XJ6?

Bidding opened @ $29k, despite the efforts of the Auctioneer to start @ $40k. The bidding only went up to $42k, and was not sold. Go figure. Worth maybe $30 to $40 on a good day.

I'll post pictures soon.

THIS SERIES II JAGUAR IS FITTED WITH MANY NEW CORRECT ITEMS INCLUDING TIRES, WHEELS, STAINLESS STEEL EXHAUST SYSTEM AND WIRING - IN TOTAL OVER $75,000 WAS INVESTED IN THIS STUNNING EXAMPLE. THIS VERY DESIRABLE SERIES II EXAMPLE REPRESENTS EXCELLENT VALUE FOR THE MONEY GIVEN THE OWNER'S SUBSTANTIAL INVESTMENT AND COMMITMENT TO THIS LOVELY BRITISH TOURING CAR.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
