This right-hand drive Series 2 E-Type first left Jaguar's Browns Lane works in 1970. Still with original chassis and engine numbers intact, the roadster was acquired in 1981 by the current owner, the seventh since 1976. Over an eighteen month period, Lancashire specialist Peter K Wilford carried out a partial refurbishment of both bodywork and interior, since when the Coventry classic has always been garaged at home.
In July 1984, the vendor and his wife spent their honeymoon driving this car around Cornwall. Apart from local trips, it was a Jaguar Drivers Club display regular at the Silverstone Historic weekend, a participant in three JDC fourteen day French Tours in 1991, 1996 and 2001 as well as successfully completing two independent tours of two weeks duration to Scotland and to France again. During a 30,000 miles tenancy, it has been extremely reliable.
Enhancements include an overhauled and balanced engine with unleaded fuel friendly large inlet valves, Dunlop wide-track chrome wires, six-branch manifold and exhaust in stainless steel, electronic ignition, Konis, neoprene suspension bushes and mohair hood.
Current condition of chassis, panels, white paintwork, black interior, 4.2 motor and 4-speed manual transmission are described as all being very good and the 92,871 miles displayed when entered believed by the vendor to be the genuine total. On file are fourteen old MOTs and invoices for most parts employed, whilst both MOT and tax disc will not require renewal until next March.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
