From a private collection, we are delighted to offer this genuine right hand drive example, showing only 27,853 miles, believed to be genuine. Built in 1971 and finished in Old English white with contrasting red interior, this has to be one of the most striking and recognisable cars from the Swinging Sixties. Repainted at some stage of its life but still maintaining time warp originality. The engine starts on the first turn of the key and that wonderful XK burble ticks over smoothly with no issues. On the road it pulls well, brakes are responsive and the steering reassuringly light. The condition of the bodywork can be described as extremely good with no signs of corrosion or filler. All panels are straight, and the door and bonnet shut is very satisfactory. This is not an over-restored example but a usable car which has been family owned for decades, that is ready to jump in and use. The car would benefit from some detailing cosmetically and under the bonnet and the paintwork, although a little flat, could be brought up to deeper shine. Accompanied by her original cherished number plate. Very rarely do low mileage, single ownership E-Types come on the market, this is an opportunity to own a fabulous piece of British motoring history at its best.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
