Sold by the Classic and Sports Car Centre of Malton in August 2024. Abbreviated seller's description below.

www.classicandsportscar.ltd.uk/jaguar-e-type-series-ii-4.2-fhc/classic-cars-sold ...

JAG952 is a home market UK RHD matching numbers example built on 19 May 1970, distributed by Henlys. London and registered through Personal Export Delivery to its first owner P G K Baldwin. He kept the E Type for 4 years and from 1974 we have 2 comprehensive folders of history that includes invoices for services and maintenance, copy of an original buff logbook, and 1974 bill of sale from Gold Seal Sports Cars, London to its second owner for £1570. It changed hands again in 1979, this owner keeping it for 20 years until sold in 1999.

The new owner put the fitting JAG952 number plate on the car and completed a restoration costing over £50,000 in 2001. The E Type was stripped to bare shell and the body rebuilt with new panels including doors, outer sills, rear quarter and wheel arch panels. The shell was then painted, mechanical components powder coated and engine rebuilt. The car was then built up with new interior, bumpers, window frames and new seals, mounts and gaskets. A file has invoices of all new parts and photos of the bodywork.

Since the rebuild the E Type has done 25,000 miles, 5,000 miles before the car was sold in 2004 and 15,000 miles since the second phase of expenditure in 2015. From 2015 to 2019 the car had a Hampshire owner who carried out a huge level of expenditure. WinSpeed Motorsport of Guildford undertook an engine rebuild in 2018 costing £9,000, this included Mahle pistons, main and big end bearings, uprated timing chain and rear seal conversion. Further work included new clutch, propshaft, axle oil seals and water pump.

The last owner purchased the car in 2019, and drove it from Hampshire to York. During the 5 years he has covered 6,000 miles and there are invoices for regular servicing and upkeep. With around 7,000 miles since the Winspeed rebuild the car is in strong mechanical condition and drives beautifully. The engine feels superb with good oil pressure, the gearbox is lovely and the car handles superbly. This is a cherished and well sorted E Type.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
