This 1968 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 is a beautiful ‘Semi Lightweight’ E-Type built to evoke the spirit of the E-Type lightweight cars which were used in period racing.
Under the bonnet is a 4.2-litre straight-six with various modifications, fed by triple SU carburettors, and driving the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
This example has been with its current owner for around six years.
The odometer indicates 85,127 miles, though this is not warranted.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
An attractive ‘Semi Lightweight’ car, this E-Type Roadster features a steel tub, an aluminium bonnet, custom flared wings, and BF-Torino sports seats on the inside.
This example is finished in a tasteful silver hue over a black leather-trimmed interior, and rides on centre-lock Dunlop cast alloy wheels with three-eared knock-off hubs.
Further modifications include larger valves, improved cooling, an aluminium radiator with electric fan, an engine oil cooler, an uprated brake system with XJ and XJS steel braided lines, an adjustable threaded chassis, a stainless steel exhaust with uprated manifolds, uprated heating and ventilation, an electric ignition system, a short final drive, an aluminium bonnet, custom-made wing flares, an individually designed interior with BF-Torino sports seats, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, a trip master located in the glove compartment, as well as a set of perforated pedals, and Plexiglass sliding side windows.
This ‘Semi Lightweight’ is noted to have been created in the early 90s, since which it has been used and preserved, and is noted to remain as it was first converted.
Accompanying the car is the registration certificate, two keys, a small selection of invoices, and a Classic-Analytics vehicle valuation report.
CONDITION
Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
Specific notes from the seller include: there are some stone chips on the front end from use. Inside there is wear and tear on the front seats.
The car’s last inspection of roadworthiness was conducted in August 2024, during which the seller reports all four tyres were noted as being advisory items needing replacement.
SERVICE HISTORY
This E-Type’s most recent routine maintenance was carried out in 2024 at around an indicated 85,000 miles by Jaguar - Kümpel. The work comprised of an engine oil and filter change service.
Prior to this, it was serviced in November 2021, which was a minor service and a TÜV inspection with an engine oil and filter change, and in September 2020, which was an engine oil and filter change and replacement of the spark plugs, and the transmission oil.
In March 2023 the interior was soundproofed, and the car was detailed inside and out.
SUMMARY
This Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 ‘Semi Lightweight’ is a fantastic build, evoking the spirit of the marque’s true lightweight cars. Offered following a recent specialist service and noted to be a real talking point, this is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a lightweight-inspired E-Type, which is ready to be driven, and would make a welcome visitor to many classic car shows and events.
