Ebay item 7/24/06
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $6,000, no reserve, no bids yet, 5 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1969 Jaguar E-type FHC that can be driven home now and is ready for restoration. This description is thorough and exact. We are extremely reluctant to sell you this car if you do not have the mechanical skills and/or money required to keep up with a vintage British sports car. They are beautiful and difficult. Just after purchase, the original owner drove cross-country with an oil leak and blew the motor. He traded it in at a Jaguar dealership in Wichita, where a new, 1969, 4.2 Litre was installed. The car was purchased by its current owner that same year. We have all of the original documentation for the car, including its vinyl-bound factory service manual. All the original badges are on the car. There is an oval, 4” X 6”, plastic aftermarket badge on the rear that was put on by its original owner. It reads “USA” in black on white and has a southwestern-style phoenix above it. The original jack, knock–off wrench, hammer, and spare are present. The car rides on its original 15” wire knock-offs. The mileage is correct. This car has an original Jaguar dealership-installed air-conditioner that is charged (134a) and blows cold. This car has been garage kept its entire life. There are tiny bits of rust only where paint has chipped away along door and panel edges. Otherwise, no rust “spots” other than: corrosion under the battery; under the driver’s pedals (superficial); and atop the radiator. The body is very straight and solid. Although there are no significant individual dents on the car, the body shows considerable “door ding” damage up and down each side, as well as similar “dings” on the hood. Repeat: "dings" everywhere, but the body is straight. The original color of the car is racing green, to which a gold flake was added during a repaint job several years ago. There are discrepancies in overall color consistency in the right light at certain angles. For restoration purposes, the body requires a complete makeover using the original parts on the car. No replacement parts or chrome are required. Although the chrome bumpers and trim are in very good shape, the rubber trim lining them and the windows throughout the car has essentially disintegrated. The interior is in very good condition throughout, though both seats need to be recovered. All of the original gauges are working properly. The clock is stopped. The radio is gone. The car was not driven for a two year period until recently, such that the brand new tires have “flat spots” on them that cause a slight vibration between 60 and 70 mph. Per a true British sports car, the car has a few rattles. We were shocked at how smoothly and muscularly the engine cruised up to 90 mph. We did not attempt faster, but this motor is very smooth and very strong. A professional jag mechanic has spent 25 hours meticulously going over this car and getting it into shape to be driven. The following items have been repaired so that the car is in strong running condition. • Clutch slave cylinder replaced • New points and condenser, and timing set • All fluids drained and refreshed. ALL of them • Carbs synched and tuned (quite beautifully actually) • Front brakes disassembled, cleaned, reassembled (rear brakes are solid) • Gas line tee at carbs replaced (not OEM). Mechanical issues that will need to be addressed in a restoration process: • 1 Cam-follower insert taps (intermittent) • Body work and interior as described above • 1 brake fluid float needs replacing • Both tie rod ends need replacing • A/C blower motor runs only at medium speed • Windscreen washer reservoir mount missing • Air filter and rubber gasket need replacing. No information has been intentionally omitted in this description. If you find a problem, either we didn’t or it is because this extremely original car has plenty of 37 year-old parts (e.g. the original gas line tee cracked as we pulled out for final photographs).

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
