Ebay item 9/8/04
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Current bid $2,000, no bids, 4 days left in auction.
Sellers description:
THE CLASSIC E-TYPE TURNS OUT TO BE ONE OF THE MOST DESIRABLE CARS EVER PRODUCED! WHY, I DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY. THEY WERE BEAUTIFUL, SEXY, SORT OF POWERFUL, AND NOT EXACTLY RELIABLE. HAVING OWNED SEVERAL, I CAN ATTEST TO THEIR RELIABILITY, OR LACK OF IT. FEWER AND FEWER ENTHUSIASTS CAN AFFORD ONE, DUE TO THE RAPID RISE IN PRICES. BUT, FOR THE DREAMER, THE HANDYMAN, THERE IS STILL HOPE. I BOUGHT THIS CAR A YEAR AGO FROM A MAN IN FLORIDA, HE WAS IN THE RESTORATION BUSINESS. HIS CLIENT DIED. HE HAD INVESTED TIME AND MONEY IN THIS CAR, NEVER TO GET IT OUT. I BOUGHT THE CAR FOR THE 'BONNET' AND FOUND THAT I COULD BUY THE CAR FOR THE PRICE OF THE BONNET. SO, HERE IT IS, AND I REALLY DO NOT WANT TO START ON IT UNTIL I FINISH MY 67 E-TYPE, AND BY THAT TIME, I WILL NOT WANT TO DO ANOTHER ONE. TO BE SURE, SOME PARTS CAME UP MISSING, AND I WILL TRY TO DESCRIBE WHAT THEY ARE: First, the pix shows the door off the driver's side, I have it. There is no windshield, as this one was really smashed. I have the backglass, the side quarter windows, but no door glass. I have the seats, and they need redoing, they are blue, and i was amazed how much of the leather had survived! I have the tranny tunnel cover. NO engine, No transmission came with the car. Heads up, now! NO TITLE! It has the ID tags on the window frame and the one I took pix of. I believe the car had been restored once before, and I base that on the fact that much of the metal in it is better than many I have seen, and the presence of seam sealer around joints in the body clinches that theory. The bonnet is there, but the usual rust has happened in the belly pan area, and can be fixed by any competent body man, or you can purchase new (mercy!). The front frame rails are excellent, showing no evidence of damage. The car has factory air, and the compressor is hanging there and I have the inside air box/condensor with the fan. Oh, yes, the gas tank, radio console, center console(not nice) and boxes of 'stuff', all belonging to the car. This car could be restored, turned into a hot rod, street rod, race car or whatever. For the more imaginative, it could be the basis for a mold of the various parts, as it is straight and solid for the most part. OK, any positives? You bet! I have a 71 XJ-6 with a great engine that I bought for parts. Twin carbs like e-type, but, it has an automatic trans behind it that I know nothing about, but you can have it with the engine, IF you buy the lot. Parts pickers, please do not apply. One car, one money. Bonnet shoppers know what that piece alone is worth! Having had e-types since 1962, I can tell you that they are works in progress, pets, if you will. Come look if you can, otherwise email is there. I have tried to answer all anticipated questions, but of course ,that is impossible. The supply of these cars has long since dried up, and I find myself looking for 'the car' all the time, with little success. When I do find one, it is way overpriced, or so bad that a body man would marry you for the money you will spend with him. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say this car is a 1.5 to 3 with 10 being a totally restored $50K + car.
