I bought this beautiful Jaguar a year and half ago and restored it to a very nice daily driver. The goal was to greatly reduce the odds of this car leaving me stranded on the side of the road! Ambitious goal for an old English car!! So....the engine was completely rebuilt. The front end and rear end of the car were rebuilt. Gas tank completely restored (very important!) The clutch was very recently redone, and a new alternator was just installed as well. The interior was redone by the previous owner about 10 years ago. It's looking pretty good, if not perfect, but I wanted a car I wasn't afraid to jump in to, so it was perfect for me. The major items I chose not to attack were the wheels, windscreen, and the wiring harness. All appear to be in pretty decent shape, although there is a nice ding in the windscreen, hiding behind the center post that holds the rear view mirror. The transmission was completely disassembled and inspected, and did not appear to be in need of a rebuild, so I left that alone as well. The clutch and the shifter are nice and smooth. Feels almost like a new car to me. The engine feels very healthy. It can definitely push you into the back of your seat. The car has new paint and a brand new Everflex Vynal top. I chose this type of top because the car originally came with a vynal top, and because it's so much easier to clean. I've also heard that they don't wear out any faster than canvas. I also think it looks much sleeker than cloth.

One unique feature of this car you may have noticed. It's a series II in all respects except for one detail. The rear bumpers and lights are series I. This was actually the thing that made me want to buy the car. I HATE the series II bumpers and lights! Ugly rear end, I've always felt. But I love everything else about the series II. So this car has all the comforts of the series II, but also looks very nice from behind!

The car is not a show car, but it is probably one of the best looking and best maintained daily drivers you'll ever see. In my opinion, the best of both worlds for someone who wants to actually drive it on a daily basis, but wants to turn heads as well. My mechanic is also a good friend, and he approaches these cars scientifically. In other words, he doesn't "rig" things. He fixes them correctly. I think you'll be quite happy with the performance of this car. I genuinely hate to sell it, but my young son has started school, and feel like a heel driving him around in a car that does not have all the modern safety devices. Not to mention, in the hot summer, the poor little guy roasts in that thing! I have another classic Jag, and owning two was just too unrealistic. One of them had to go!

DOC, educated guess is its a '68 (S1.5) with the bonnet and probably picture frame from a S2 and along with it the VIN. That would be far more feasible than the concept of having an entire S1 rear clip installed.

I think Doc's guess is probably a good one. The mechanic in Texas who inspected this car for me before I bought it said it was a series 1.5 with a series 2 bonnet. I looked at the matching numbers and assumed that he was wrong. Now I'm not so sure! This car continues to be Eloy's enigma!

I think the series 1.5 with a series II bonnet has to be correct. My roadster, #1r7932 has is a normal series II car, including the rear clip. Since my car was produced six vehicles before this one, I think it's unlikely this car would have had a series 1.5 rear clip.
