Opening bid $30,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 6 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
COACHWORK
The car we started with had no major body damage. We disassembled the care entirely, removing all doors from the hull and also the front sub-frame. We stripped the coachwork to bare metal, repaired all minor dings, rust-proofed the body, primed and painted it with regency red lacquer. We fitted new floor pans as the originals were rusted. We replaced all rubber components, and fitted a new windshield. We feel the coach and paintwork is at least as good as it was when it left the Jaguar works in England. We have not re-chromed the bright-work as this was in good condition, though there are a few blemishes (e.g., the bumper over-riders drilled to fit not standard tubular crash bars, which we have not refitted).

On testing this car, we found we had recurring sediment in the gas, so fitted it with a new gas tank and fuel quantity sending unit.

INTERIOR
We have entirely restored the interior of the car. We fitted new Connolly leather seat covers, re-carpeted the car in black, remade the door pads and covered them in high quality vinyl of similar quality to the original, and fitted a new black convertible top and boot cover. We also replaced the other vinyl side panels, and fitted new trunk floorboards. We re-padded and covered he dash roll in black vinyl, and re-dyed the instrument panel.

The instruments are all original and all work, as does the interior lighting. The steering wheel is the original Jaguar wood rimmed one. The car is fitted with an AM/FM radio.

SUSPENSION
We completely disassembled the suspension, front and rear. All front suspension ball joints were replaced, as were all bearings and rubber bushings and mounts, front and rear. New shock absorbers were fitted all round. The steering rack was re-bushed, and new tie rod ends were fitted. The differential has not been rebuilt as we were unable to detect any signs of undue wear.

We fitted new brake pads and seals all round, and had the brake rotors resurfaced. We also rebuilt the brake master cylinder. The car has five new Avon tires, to the original specification, on Jaguar standard steel wheels.

MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION
We have rebuilt the motor completely. The block was re-bored, the crankshaft ground, and the head resurfaced and valve seats reground. We fitted new pistons, timing chains, oil pump, bearings, valves (both exhaust and intake), valve springs, gaskets, seals, etc. We rebuilt the carburetors, and replaced all rubber hoses, belts, etc., and the entire ignition system. We fitted a complete new exhaust system, from header pipes to tailpipes.

We fitted a new clutch and thrust bearing, but have not rebuilt the gearbox, as we were unable to detect any signs of undue wear. The clutch master and slave cylinders have also been rebuilt.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
We checked the entire wiring system, re-taped it and replaced any connectors that appeared dubious. We fitted a Delco generator and replaced the original SU fuel pump with an electronic pump, which we feel is more reliable. All electrical components work. The car has a new battery.

The foregoing was prepared, as best I can recall, in 1993, when this car was completed and being prepared for sale. After test driving it, I decided I would like it for my personal enjoyment. However, I found little opportunity to use it, so it has been stored since 1995. This car has done 2,800 miles or so since restoration, and was recently checked to ensure that it is fully roadworthy. It is currently neither insured, nor does it have a state inspection sticker.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
