Car to be offered at auction 12/04
www.coys.co.uk/auctions/lot.php
Auction description:
True Greats An Important Auction of British and Continental Sports & Touring Cars, Toys, Models and Automobilia Saturday 4th December 2004
Lot 227
1973 Jaguar E-Type S3 V12 Roadster
Registration no: TWB 440L
Chassis no: IS1548
Estimate: £33,000-36,000
This E-Type was produced as a right hand drive roadster and was first registered in the UK in 1973. There have only been two owners since March 1996, including the present owner. In 1989, the vehicle underwent a complete chassis-up restoration by XK engineering. There is a full schedule of works together with a comprehensive photographic record of the restoration. Following the restoration, the car was acquired by Mr Bruce Ward where it spent the next two years as a showpiece in his motor Dealer ship showroom in Dunstable. The car was then bought by the present owner, Robert Forsyth in 1991 for £50,000. Since that time, the car has been cosseted in a de-humidified wooden garage with in another larger building. The vehicle has seen very little use and still has less than 500 miles on the clock since the restoration, including the journey from Shrewsbury to London for this auction. It has never been out in the rain. In August this year, it was decided to recommission the car, the work was undertaken by Vicarage Cars at a cost in excess of £3,000. TWB 440L is in superb condition with all the appearance of a new vehicle. It is finished in British Racing Green with a black mohair hood, a black leather interior and chrome wire wheels. Under the bonnet, the V12 unit is pristine and has been tuned by Vicarage as part of the recommissioning. This is a genuine UK car with a documented history and the benefit of a complete restoration by one of the foremost Jaguar restoration companies in England. Although the restoration took place some years ago, the car has travelled so little and has been looked after so well that the condition can still be described as extremely close to concourse condition.
