By 1971, Jaguar's jaw-dropping E-Type had been in production for a decade. Despite continual improvements, new emissions legislation in the all important American market threatened to strangle the big cat's performance. Jaguar responded by giving its revered sports car new claws in the shape of a 5343cc V12 developed from the still born XJ13 Le Mans project car. The new engine was both effortlessly powerful and eerily smooth. With some 272bhp on tap, the Series III E-Type once again had 150mph in its sights. A revised wheelbase yielded better cabin space and together with wider tracks front and rear and new anti-dive front suspension geometry and wider tyres gave improved road-holding. From the first year of production, this Series III fixed head coupe is in good overall condition. Recently subject to some mild renovation work totalling approximately £1,000, it is in fine fettle. Finished in bright red, the versatile 2+2 interior is trimmed in black leather with matching carpets and a CD player. The engine's prodigious torque output 304lbft makes it well suited to the car's three speed automatic gearbox. Offered for sale with V5 registration document, a year's MOT and sundry invoices, this V12 E-Type remains a capable and stylish grand tourer.

This was my dads car. Thomas Cox. He bought it Birmingham in August 1978 for £5800. He kept it until about 1991 I think. I know it had a full rebuild by Clarks motor services in the early 80's plus a gearbox rebuild. My dad died last year. I have since bought a.xk8. I would love to buy his e type back. 07932 001704.

Hello I have a similar request. Not sure if anyone reading this still has the car. I found a pic of this reg e type in my dads picture. I've been talking with my Mom and as an enthusiast he took many pictures of cars :) I find out that he had an early 70's Red e type that he sold shortly after I was born in 78. I'd love to find out if this was the car. He passed away last month.. my email is vr4wizz2@hotmail.com
