Car to be at auction
www.silverstoneauctions.com/1978-jaguar-e-type-fixed-head
Auction description:
The Restoration Show Sale
A manual 1972 Jaguar E Type Series 3 V12 2 + 2 FHC
Lot No.: TBA
Registration: TGF 279L
Chassis Number: 1S51447
Engine Number: 7579615A
Number of cylinders: 12
CC: 5300
Year of Manufacture: 1972
Estimate (£): 19,000 - 22,000
To say this is a fantastic find would be something of an understatement, a black manual V12 E type on wire wheels, it evokes so many images of what to many is the perfect classic car, looks, pace, rarity, the list goes on. According to a Heritage Certificate that comes with this car this particular car this is a matching numbers car that was built on the 26th October 1972 and supplied by a dealer in Hatfield. There are 4 old style MOT certificates included with the oldest one dated 2001 at which point the mileage was recorded at 67534, the car now has a speedometer reading of 67941
We are informed by the vendor that whilst the engine hasn't run for some time it is reported to be internally free, the car itself is complete and offers a unique opportunity to buy a very special motor car. Please note according to the heritage certificate that comes with this car and the numbers supplied on the DVLA log book this may well be a matching numbers car, however Silverstone Auctions can in no way corroborate this and would ask all interested parties to carry out due diligence in relation to this issue.

I've just bought this car. There isn't any history prior to 2001 so would be interested if anyone knows anything about this car?
It says on the logbook that the date of first registration in UK was 01.10.2001 so any idea where it was before then?

I now have a lot more information on the car. It was originally sold in Hatfield and had 5 owners before being exported to South Africa in 1983. The last UK owner confirmed the mileage at the time was 40,000 something. The registration number was TWA 22L.
The car stayed in Johannesburg until 2000 when it was brought back to the UK by its owner. It was then sold on in 2001 and remained in storage until 2014 when I bought it.
Because the chassi and engine numbers were submitted to the DVLA incorrectly when imported they did not link the car back to its original details so a new reg number was issued. I've now been able to get the DVLA to sort out the mismatch and the car now wears the reg no TWA 22L.
I still don't have any early documented history but I'm fairly confident that the mileage is genuine given the condition and originality.
Engine number is 7S7961SA
