Ebay item 9/14/11
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Jaguar-1971-Series-III-V-12-Early-XKE-/160651450833
Current bid $4,494 reserve not met, 6 bids 8 days left in auction. Buy it now price $17,500. Complete VIN on this car is J711S70318BW.

Sellers description:
This 1971 Series III E-type is one of a handful of the first V-12 E-types built. This car is 318th car and all the numbers match. The body is super dry as the car was in Arizona most of it's life. I do not see any signs of accident damage either. I believe the color was changed somewhere along the line. It is 100% complete. As you can see it still has the orginal grey jack that came only with the early cars. Some additional distinguishing features of the V-12 early cars are as follows: the fiberglass shroud over the radiator, the 9-1 compression ratio on the engine, the smaller bumpers (front & rear) and the word Jaguar is cast in the cam covers. The original Dunlop SP Sport tires are still on the car with the original wire wheels. The wheels look great. The original Lucas lamps are still in the car. The car has been in storage for a while. It does run, but I believe there is a lot sediment in the gas tank so the filters clog up after a few minutes. The car will need to be gone through due to it having been sitting for a while.

Car returns to ebay 3/20/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-Jaguar-XKE-2-2-Series-III-V-12-NO-RESERVE-/33070466 ...
Opening bid $16,900, no reserve, no bids yet 6 days left in auction. Car now said to be in Salem, New York. 65k miles.

Sellers description:
1971 Jaguar XKE seriesIII V-12 2+2, Automatic transmission. 65,100 miles. All numbers match.
This is the 318th V-12 car built, has the 9-1 compreesion engine and fiberglass radiator shroud.
Car was sold new in Southern California and spent most all of it's milage in the south. Records show only a couple of thousand miles in the past 10+ years. The car was stored inside as evident by its condition.

The condition of this car is very good for a 41 year old car, especially an E-type. All metal is very solid and original with the exception of surface rust under the rear bumper as seen in the photo.

The car was re-sprayed red over the original silver/gray at some point, the car deserves a new high quality paint job.

The interior is very presentable and shows typical ware, although it is in much better condition than most . The headliner has been replaced but the sunvisors and perimeter trim around the headliner needs replacement. Carpets are in good condition, the rear compartment looks good, no cracks in the steering wheel. All the glass appears to be original and has no cracks.

Original Becker radio does not work at this time. I have not looked into fixing it, ??

The air conditioning work fine and blows cold air as it should. The power steering pump leaks fluid and needs attention.

The chrome work is in very good condition as well as the chrome wire wheels with original equipment Dunlop SP sport tires, the tires have excellent tread but I would not recommend extended driving because of their age--the tires will be a great asset for showing the car. Original jack w/storage bag, spare tire as shown including original spec Dunlop.

This car is ready to drive- I have performed the following services:

*New ignition coil
*All cooling hoses replaced
*Cooling system flush
*Fuel tank flush
*Transmission flush
*Engine oil and filter

When I purchased this car I intended to keep it and drive it occasionally, I looked a long time to find a car as solid as this one is and original as this one is. The rockers, door sills, under bonnet area, spare tire well , floor pans, etc, are very solid and still look as they did when the car was built. The only rust is in the back as previously mentioned. My personal situation has changed and I am now selling some of my cars, property, etc. I regret selling this car but do so with a NO RESERVE listing. If you are in the market for a appreciating E-type, you will want to check this one out.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
