53,388 MILES, ON EBAY 12/07, SELLER WRITES:?1971 Coupe, original paint,4-speed,original milage, off the road since 1986,i am the third owner, california car all its life,i bought it as a project and thats what it is,it ran but needs carb overhaul etc so consider it not driveable, the gas tank is out and has been dipped and awaits paint.Overseas bidders are fine with me i am 80 miles from the port of long beach but you must have positve feedback and make contact with me before bidding.Advertised elsewhere so it may sell locally, also $500 non refundable deposit due within 24 hrs after auction and paypal is fine for that, the balance due within 10 days of end of auction.I am sure i will edit my auction and answer questions as they come up,thanks.

Car returns to ebay 1/27/09

Current bid AU $5,100, 4 bids 8 days left in auction. Car now in Victoria, Australia. 53k miles.

Sellers description:
This is a 1971 coupe that I imported from the US last year. Its a California car with minimal rust. The only rust spot I can find is on the RHS floor where the airconditioner drain has blocked and created a small wet area. Rust hole is about 35 mm diam. Easy to weld up. Sills and the rest of the floor look good as you would expect from a dry climate car.

Currently has V12 engine and trans out of the car. Without these in the way, conversion to RHD is straight forward as the dash is modular and its mainly a case of changing the steering rack, bolting in 2 replacement dash panels and relocating the pedal box. Engine turns over but has rusty coolant pipes which need replacement. AutoTrans appears good and is not a leaker.

Car was stored for many years in US and mileage is probably correct. Mileage listed is in Miles not Kilometers

Body is straight but has a few parking dents. Rear bumber centre section has been flattened slightly and needs repacement. Interior is tired. Tires are unuseable as old and hard. Car has optional airconditioning.

Car has a Boneville Speed Week sticker for 1976 on the windscreen so probably has been driven very fast at least once. If they keep records maybe you could find out how fast it went!

This car is a great project for someone mechanically minded who wants to get into E-types at the very bottom end of the price range. Normally the cheap ones are rusty heaps of junk. This one mainly only needs mechanical work. I have too many projects, so this one has to go. Since the bottom fell out of the Aussie dollar you are not going to get one direct from the States any cheaper than buying this one which is already here, is available to inspect and has a valid import approval. Car is in Lara near Geelong, Vic.

I now own this Series 3 2+2. I have started a ground up restoration of the car and have started by replacing the Right hand bulkhead and front floor, as mentioned by others there was some rust there so it's is now removed and repaired. I have decided to change the colour of the car from Primrose Yellow to "Opalescent Gunmetal". The car is just about to leave the paint shop and looks magnificent in it's new colour!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
