This 1971 Jaguar E-Type is rare--one of just 7,297 Series III 2+2 Coupes produced during its five-year production run--and is desirably optioned with both an automatic transmission and air conditioning. In 1971, Jaguar introduced the Series III E-Type. This was a characteristically different car than its predecessors, the Series I and Series II models, which were high-performance sports cars in direct competition with the Chevrolet Corvette and the Porsche 911. The Series III Jaguar was now a refined luxury GT whose main rivals were the Mercedes Benz 450SLC, the BMW 3.0 CS, the Citroen SM and the Jensen Interceptor. The metamorphosis from sports car to luxury GT car involved several substantive changes, the two most significant features being the new V-12 5.3L engine and a 9-inch stretch in wheelbase. The new V-12 engine was significantly larger in displacement than the inline 6-cylinder engine that it replaced, growing from 4.2 liters to 5.3 liters. This 1971 Jaguar E-Type presents beautifully in its factory-correct color combination of a Cotsworth Blue exterior complemented by a dark-blue leather interior.
