81543 MILES, ON EBAY 08/07 SELLER WRITES:
Up for sale is my 1971 Jaguar XKE coupe. This is the first year V-12, and as a coupe(2+2) was made in more limited quantities than the convertible, so it is actually a rarer car than the priced convertibles. This is a 2 owner car, with the original paperwork and owners manual.
The car is undergoing restoration, and recently had new a floor, sills and rear wings(quarter panels) welded in. All have been professionally primed and seam sealed. These are original Martin Robey panels and cost a bunch $$$. This car is COMPLETE, and will make the winner of the auction an easy finisher. However, please don’t buy this for a parts car, as you will break my heart.
The car has a salvage certificate, however don’t let that scare you. It is not a flood car, etc. but had a very small engine fire that scared the insurance company that insured it, but it was easily repaired. (In many states you can still convert this back to a regular title.
A LOT of time and effort has been put into this car, and even though it isn’t finished yet, it will make a great finishing project for someone. Engine is also complete, although it is not currently running (was running before restoration began). Engine has been filled with protectant while car is being restored, but should start up with rebuilt carbs, etc. All parts are boxed and labeled to reinstall, and many have been installed since taking these photos a few days ago.
Way too much new, but just a few of the New or rebuilt items:
Martin-Robey sills and stiffeners and close panels
Martin Robey rear quarter patch panels
Martin Robey rear quarter wings
Martin-Robey drivers side floor
Martin Robey Radius arm cups(2) installed with plate steel bases.
Front frame stripped, rust proofed and re-painted
Trunk area stripped, rust proofed and re-painted
New insulation panels
Radiator
Heater box, media blasted, rust proofed and repainted.
New hoses, belts
Rebuild kits for Brake master, power booster, and front calipers. (currently rebuilding all, and may have done before end of sale)
Fuel tank completely refurbished with POR-15, 3 stage sealer (never ever have rust again.)
New Oil and fuel filters.
Transmission fluid and filter change.
Front brake rotors and hoses
Interior is complete, and remainder will be installed before sale, however front seats could use new covers, and carpet is worn. Will need sill cover material.
Comes with 2 bonnets; one excellent condition, the other needs a little work, but could be useable (or sell it off ). The chins on both are good, which is rare. The chins are not shown in the picture as they are currently being media blasted and primed. One will need work, but is repairable.
For those that already watch ebay, you know that the parts on this car are quite valuable, (the bonnets alone are worth over $2,000 each in good condition). The price for just some of the parts (good front and rear bumpers, grills, most chrome in great shape, all glass and the 2 bonnets, etc.) is worth more than my reserve.
Car will also need the Carbs and fuel pump rebuilt, although they are in good shape, and candidates for rebuild. Rear brakes will need to be rebuilt, and new bushings for rear radius arms needed.
I need the room for a new project, so please bid and give her a good home!
Car is also advertised locally, so I reserve the right to end the sale early.
