The Interior
Original black leather upholstery
2+2 layout
Optional rear seatbelts
With a longer wheelbase than the previous cars, the Series 3 Fixed Head Coupé offered a genuine 2+2 layout. This car comes with the optional rear seat belts too, making it as practical as it is pretty.
The cabin itself is in very good condition, with the dashboard, instrumentation and switchgear all presenting well, with only light wear and a pleasing patina.
It’s particularly nice to see the original radio is present and correct. We’re assured by the owner that all of the cabin’s features work correctly, with only the dashboard clock currently not functioning.
Directly before the driver is that classic, thin-rimmed, leather-trimmed 3-spoke racing wheel. It looks to be in excellent condition and really lends the driving environment a classic motorsport feel.
Black carpets run through the interior, neatly matching the perforating black leather upholstery of the seats, sills and door cards. All of the leather is in fine condition, with no rips or damage evident.
The commodious boot area is trimmed with black vinyl and contains a full-size spare wire wheel as well as a complete toolkit.
The Exterior
Primrose Yellow paintwork
Original chrome wire wheels
The original Primrose Yellow paintwork really suits the sweeping lines of the E-Type, highlighting the low, long lines.
One of the benefits of the Series 3 is the slightly redesigned bodyshell, widened to accommodate the V12 engine, and fitted with wider wheels and unique brightwork such as the chromed grille.
Overall the paint is in good condition, with only a couple of areas showing some minor peeling on the bonnet and door edges. There are some minor blemishes and swirls as you’d expect, but nothing that would concern us.
All of the metalwork itself looks to be straight, clean and well-gapped, with no evidence of damage or accident repair that we could see. Likewise, the underside of the vehicle is in excellent condition. The sills, floor pans, chassis rails and drivetrain elements all look very fresh and clean with no signs of corrosion visible.
The car is riding on original 15” chromium-plated wire wheels, shod in Pirelli 4000 tyres which look to be in very good condition with lots of tread.
Alongside the chromed wheels, the car features plenty of original external brightwork, all of which is in very good condition with no elements missing.
The Mechanics
5.3-litre V12
3-speed automatic transmission
Quad exhaust
Extensive mechanical restoration
The current owner has had a number of mechanical upgrades made, as well as refreshing the existing drivetrain elements. All four of the Stromberg carburettors have been rebuilt, two new fan motors have been fitted, as well as a new high-torque starter and an all-aluminium radiator.
Under the bonnet the engine bay is very clean and neat, the owner clearly having spent a lot of time and money restoring and maintaining this lovely vehicle.
