Offered for sale is “Kitty,” a lovely 1971 XKE Series III 2+2 coupe finished in show quality black paint with tan interior that combines originality with some recent refurbishment. I acquired Kitty in April of 2013 after many years of looking for the right E-Type to suit my needs. I am not much for judged shows and have always sought cars that are original with sensitive restoration and mechanical attention as need to bring them up to standard and provide the best possible driving experience. I have always loved the E-Type 2+2 for its looks, and have admired the SIII V-12 for its smooth and responsive power and racing heritage. After much searching, I found what I was looking for in Kitty, and have enjoyed her for more than 6 years; but circumstances have led me to reduce my collection over the past couple of years, and it is time to offer Kitty to a new owner.

Kitty was purchased through a broker in Pennsylvania after having been a part of an estate. She is equipped with wire wheels and the original Borg Warner automatic. I was told that the car was restored in the late 90’s by a locally well-known restorer of E-Types for show, and that Kitty was done over to be his personal high-quality driven class car. I tried, but was unable to secure any prior documentation about the restoration, which I was told had been lost in the estate process of the subsequent owner. But the quality of the work done was self-evident.

Kitty was originally sable/tan and was carefully resprayed in black. The paint shows extremely well with great depth and luster. There are no significant swirl marks, and the paint has stood up remarkably well, with just a few touch-ups and no meaningful damage. Over the years I have had many, many complementary comments on the paint and the overall condition. All chrome is excellent or very good with no rust and no significant pitting.

When I purchased Kitty the interior was remarkably well preserved, and mostly original. I believe that the carpets were replaced at the time of restoration, and also that the front seats were treated to new hides at that time. (The match of the front seats to the rest of the interior is excellent but the front seats seem just a bit fresher than the rear seat and side panels.) The rear seat back shows a bit of small cracking at the top of the center bolster, and there is evidence of use in the rear compartment, with a few marks and a bit of damage, but again nothing significant. The headliner was original and sagging slightly in one area, so I had the entire headliner and visors redone by Redan, which I considered to be the best interior restoration shop in the area, and they did a lovely job. So now that interior is very very presentable throughout. The dash and instruments are all nice and all function properly (even the clock). There are a couple of chips in the finish of the A/C condenser face, particularly near the ignition lock, where keys have no doubt been the culprit over the years.

Under the hood things are clean and tidy, but I have not made any effort to detail it for show. Undercarriage is clean with typical evidence of bumps and scrapes from the low ground clearance. I can find no evidence of rot or repair on the car.

When I first got the car, I was very pleased with most of its mechanical condition. The engine has always started readily and run well with great power and no evidence of smoke or issues. The transmission shifts properly and smoothly. Over the first two years of ownership I had my mechanics carefully inspect the entire car and refurbishments were performed. The front end was rebuilt with all new ball joints, bushings and shocks. This made a huge difference in handling and Kitty is now a joy to drive, very tight and responsive. The brakes were done including new master cylinder and primary booster unit, hoses, servo assembly, front pads and rotors and wheel bearings. The exhaust hangers were replaced and the left and right heat shields were replaced. The cooling system was redone including new hoses, thermostats, etc. The battery compartment was prepped and painted, and the battery replaced. All belts were replaced. The idler pully was replaced.

Kitty has been properly maintained and securely garaged since, and has never been out in inclement weather during my ownership. She starts, runs, and drives very well and is a pleasure to tour with. All systems function well. The A/C blows cold, but high fan setting does not work. All lights, signals, gauges, speedometer and odometer, etc., work properly. Windows and door locks work well. All glass is good; there is a light windshield wiper scratch and a small patch of scratching in the windscreen. Oil pressure is excellent. The current displayed mileage is 5,500 which it is believed reflects the mileage since restoration.

Kitty was originally Sable with tan interior when delivered. I have the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate for the car showing manufacture on June 10, 1971. All numbers are matching. I have all records from my ownership of Kitty. The car is currently registered with the State of Connecticut, but Connecticut does not title antique and classic vehicles so will be sold with assigned registration and a bill of sale. Reproduction owner's manual and full shop manual are included. A black custom car cover with bag is also included.
