This 1972 Jaguar XKE is a Series III 2+2 coupe that is finished in light blue over a dark blue interior and powered by a 5.3-liter SOHC V12 paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes power-assisted steering and four-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension, chrome wire-spoke wheels, a heater, and a clock. The car was acquired in November 1981 by the seller, reportedly from its third owner, and was stored from 1986 to 2021 at which time it was recommissioned. This Series III XKE is now offered with parts and service records, removed parts, a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in light blue and shows areas of repainting and corrosion repair along with visible damage to the grille and front apron. Features include a front-hinged bonnet with louvered vents, navy blue pinstriping, chrome bumpers with overriders, chrome window trim and driver-side mirror, V12 badging, dual exhaust outlets, and a rear fender radio antenna.

Chrome 15″ wire-spoke wheels showing corrosion wear Coker Classic red-stripe tires and have been fitted with replacement inner tubes and rim liners. The car is equipped with independent suspension. The power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes have been rebuilt with replacement calipers, rotors, pads, cylinders, reservoirs, and lines.

The interior features seating upholstered in blue leather along with matching carpets as well as a black dashboard, center console, and door panels. Amenities include a heater, a rear window defroster, Jaguar-logo floor mats, a locking glove box, and rocker switches for auxiliary systems. Cracks are present in the dashboard and upholstery. Uninstalled air conditioning components are included in the sale.

A worn leather-wrapped steering wheel showing sits ahead of a replacement Smiths 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline. An analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level are mounted in the center of the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 28k miles, 13k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The seller states that the clock does not function accurately.

The aluminum 5.3-liter SOHC V12 was factory rated at 314 horsepower. Service in 1988 included replacing the crankshaft bearings, oil pump, cam tower, and clutch, and the replacement steering rack was resealed in 2021. Components installed or replaced since 2016 include four SU carburetors, spark plugs and wires, a CoolCat aluminum radiator, cooling fans and thermostats, a fuel pump, and an Optima battery.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.

The Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate lists the original colors and identification numbers.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
