Ebay item 11/22/11
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
Opening bid $13,000 reserve not met, no bids yet 5 days left in auction.

Sellers description:
1972 JAGUAR V-12 WITH A RARE 4-SPEED. CAR HAS 34,922 ORIGINAL MILES 2ND OWNER

HISTORY: The original owner bought the car new in Rhode Island. He drove the car as regular transportation for about 6 years (only in good weather). The car was always garaged. After 6 years of driving the car, the owner had health problems and Never drove the car again. I purchases the car from his, son after he died. The car sat unused for almost 25 years in the same garage, when I found it. It took me a few months to get it back up and running again. After changing all the fluids, belts, tires and everything else I had it running.

After getting most things straightened out, I sent it up to DONOVAN MOTORCAR (Jaguar Experts) in Lenox, Mass and had them do the fine tuning. Dunbar's was amazed at it's untouched and unmolested original condition , and said I had a real "Diamond In The Rough ". Since that time I have made mechanical improvements each year. Now the car is very usable with most of the bugs worked out.

CONDITION:
EXTERIOR: THE CAR LOOKS TERRIBLE BECAUSE OF A VERY POOR REPAINT, I GUESS WAS DONE 76-77. LOOK A LITTLE CLOSER, YOU WILL SEE THE BODY IS ALMOST PERFECT. HAS NO DENTS AT ALL.

THE COMPLETE CAR I ALMOST RUST FREE, OTHER THAN SURFACE RUST COMING THROUGH THE CRAPPY REPAINT. NO ROT. THE ONLY SPOTS ON THE CAR TO NEED ATTENTION ARE THE EYEBROWS ( minor ) AND BEHIND THE DRIVERS DOOR LOOKS TO HAVE A LITTLE BONDO ON IT. OTHER THAN THAT VERY CLEAN.

THE BONNET IS PERFECT AND HAS NEVER BEEN HIT. MOST OF THE PLATING IS GOOD, OTHER THAN THE BUMPERS WILL NEED TO BE RE-PLATED. THEY ARE NICE AND STRAIGHT, THOUGH.

INTERIOR:
TIME CAPSULE: EVERYTHING IS ABSOLUTLEY ORIGINAL. THE LEATHER HAS FADED A BIT, BUT IS COMPLETE AND NOT RIPPED I WAS TOLD BY AN INTERIOR EXPERT NOT TO REPLACE THE INTERIOR. BECAUSE MOST OF IT IS PERFECT. HE SAID ALL HE WOULD DO WAS TREAT THE LEATHER AND POSSIBLY DYE THE FRONT SEATS.

THE DASH BOARD IS NICE, ONLY NEEDS A LITTLE DETAILING. ALL THE GUAGES WORK FINE, ALTHOUGH IT HAS A PHANTOM TACH, (WORKS WHEN IT WANTS TOO). THANKS JOE LUCAS. DO NOT HAVE THE RADIO, BUT DO HAVE THE RADIO COWL.

ENGINE:
12 CYLINDERS OF HONKIN' TORQUE! THIS THING PULLS LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN. HIT IT IN 1ST GEAR TO THIRTY, QUICK SHIFT TO 2ND AND YOU ARE INSTANTLY PASSING 70. THE CAR HAS SUCH TORQUE YOU CAN DRIVE AS SLOW AS 20 MPH IN 4TH GEAR WITHOUT IT LABORING. THEN GIVE IT THE GAS AND IT STARTS PULLIN'. IT'S EVEN FAST FOR TODAY STANDARDS.

ONE OF THE BEST THING I EVER DID FOR THIS CAR WAS TO UPDATE THE COOLING SYSTEM. MODERN HIGH QUALITY, CUSTOM BUILT FAN AND SHROUD TO REPLACE THE ANEMIC DINKY ORIGINAL FANS.

BEFORE I CHANGED THE FANS, I COULD ONLY DRIVE THE CAR IN MILD WEATHER, BECAUSE THE 12'S ALWAYS RAN HOT. SINCE THE UPDATE THE CAR ALWAYS RUN IN THE NORMAL TEMP AREA, EVEN IN TRAFFIC. NICE AND COOL, AS IT SHOULD BE.

CHASSIS:
PRETTY MUCH ALL REBUILT FRONT TO REAR. FRONT END, NEW TORSION BARS, BALL JOINTS, CONTROL ARM BUSHES, SHOCKS, BRAKES, ETC....

THE XKE 'S WERE FAMOUS FOR THEIR AMAZING HANDLING. AND THIS CAR LIVES UP TO THAT REP, THIS CAR IS A GAS TO DRIVE, LIKE NO OTHER. THE NOSE IS SO LONG YOU HAVE TO THINK ABOUT YOUR CORNERS AHEAD OF TIME.

LIST OF PARTS REPLACED OR REBUILT:
COMPLETE EXHAUT YSTEM FRONT END REBUILT NEW SERVO ASSEMBLY
NEW BRAKES AND CALIPERS NEW TORSION BAR SET REBUILT STEERING RACK
ALTERNATOR REBUILT NEW VOLTAGE REGULATOR NEW POWER STEERING PUMP
CARBS REBUILT NEW TIRES NEW ELECT MODULE
NEW SEAT BELTS (NOT INSTALLED)
ALL NEW BELTS
NEW SHOCKS

ABOUT THE ONLY THING NOT WORKING IS THE AIRCONDITIONING SYSTEM. EVERYTHING HAS BEEN CHECK AND IN WORKING CONDITION, BUT NEEDS THE COMPRESSOR CHANGED

I HAVE HAD THE JAG NOW FOR TEN YEARS. I TAKE IT OUT EACH SPRING AND DO SOME IMPROVEMENT EACH YEAR AND DRIVE IT ABOUT A 1000 MILES.

THE CAR HAD 25,000 MILES WHEN I GOT IT AND I ADDED ANOTHER 10,000 MYSELF. THE CAR IS 40 YEARS OLD, WITH ONLY 34,000 MILES. WITH MOST OF THE HEAVY LIFTING DONE ( NOT TO MENTION $$$ ) AND THE CAR IN GREAT RUNNING CONDITION IT IS READY FOR THE NEXT SET....PAINT.

WITH THE ECONOMY THE WAY IT IS. I CAN'T AFFORD TO GIVE THE CAR A PROPER PAINT JOB IT DESERVES. AT THE SAME TIME I CAN'T BRING MYSELF TO DO A CHEAPIE PAINT JOB EITHER. THE PROPER PAINT JOB MEANS REMOVING ALL THE GLASS, NEW HEADLINER.....ECT.

INSTEAD I HAVE DECIEDED TO SELL THIS CAR TO FINANCE ONGOING MOTORCYCLE RESTORATIONS. WILL CONSIDER VINTAGE CYCLES AS PARTIAL TRADES.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
