    Car currently listed on EBay:

    cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll

    Description: Jaguar : XKE
    1972 Jaguar XKE Series 3, 2+2, V12

    Year: 1972 Warranty: No
    Miles: 33361 Transmission: Automatic
    Engine: 12 - Cyl. Doors: 2 doors
    Interior: Beige/Tan Exterior: Brown
    VIN Number: 1S74073

Vehicle Description: I am the third owner, having purchased the car in non-running condition from an estate sale. I intended to get the car in driving condition and restore it as a hobby in my retirement. However, I have had the car for 4.5 years and have yet to find time to work on the car. I have 5 more years to retirement and have decided to give someone else the pleasure of this lady's company.

Vehicle Condition: Vehicle has not been run on city streets for about 8 years due to failed fuel pump and brake master cylinder. I have fired off the engine by manually feeding fuel to the four carburetors, but that roaring 12 cylinder Vroom quickly dies without fuel. Fuel system needs cleaning and new pump installed.

Brake master cylinder needs to be replaced or rebuilt.

Added gearbox and engine numbers based on info from current owner/seller. He also indicated the engine number matched.

Opening bid $5,000.00 (Reserve not met), no bids yet, 6 days left in auction. Sale is from same location. Sellers description is basically the same as above however the below additional comments were added.

    Sellers description:
The car has not been run on city streets for about 9 years. During that time, she has been garaged in air conditioned or humidity controlled space, so there is no body rust or moldy leather found on other examples. The only place that I have observed rust is in the exhaust system mufflers. The engine will fire off smoothly if I manually feed fuel to the four carburetors. However, that roaring 12 cylinder Vroom quickly dies without drawing fuel from the fuel pump. The fuel system needs cleaning and a new pump and filter installed. The brakes are another area that needs attention. Although the brakes worked when I bought the car 5 years ago, I noted the pedal now goes to the floor and the emergency/parking brake must be used to brake when pushing the car in/out of the garage. There has been no sign of brake fluid on the garage floor, so the master or slave cylinder must be by-passing fluid internally and should be rebuilt or replaced. Surprisingly, all Lucas electrical systems are working. I installed a new battery and all lights come on, the starter worked, the engine fired, even the original British-Leyland AM/FM cassette player works. The interior is in good shape. The seams in the front seat bottoms are beginning to pull apart. The previous owner installed sheep skin seat covers to protect the leather underneath. The carpets, dash, door panels, rear seats and rear hatch are all in good shape. The headliner is showing age. the air boxes are removed, but all components are available. Never having driven the car, I don’t personally know the condition of the transmission and air-conditioner. However, I was told by the previous owner’s family that the car was in good operating condition before the owner died.

This car was purchased for me in Febuary '05 and has been repaired as follows: New gas tank, rebuilt carbs, complete rebuilt brakes with SS pistons, water pump, alternator, power steering pump. All hoses replaced and Cheeney clamps fitted as needed, heater ass'y rebuilt, fresh air inlet rebuilt, rear suspension to include differential rebuilt, rims trued and new tires mounted. Mileage documented as original, even has the original spare tire that came with the car(Dunlap EV70R15)
New SS exhaust system installed, manifolds cleaned. Should be on the road this summer!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
