This 1970 Jaguar XKE Series II coupe was acquired by the seller’s late mother in 1975, and it underwent a cosmetic refurbishment in the late 1990s. The car is powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes a louvered clamshell hood, four-wheel disc brakes, 15″ wire wheels, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, a cassette stereo, and air conditioning. This XKE coupe is now offered with a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, service records, and a clean California title in the seller’s name, listing it as a 1971 model.
The car came finished from the factory in silver and was repainted with a purple tint in 1996, at which time the chrome was re-plated. The seller notes an area of bubbling around the left rear bumper along with a dent on the right front of the hood.
The 15″ wire wheels are secured by earless knock-offs and are mounted with 205/70 Avon Turbospeed tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel discs with inboard-mounted rear rotors.
The cabin features bucket seats that were reupholstered in black leather in 1996, along with a color-coordinated center console, door panels, and carpets. Interior appointments include a cassette stereo, a locking glovebox, and air conditioning.
The wood-rimmed steering wheel frames Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 5k-rpm redline as well as an analog clock and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 88k miles.
The 4.2-liter inline-six was factory equipped with dual Zenith-Stromberg carburetors and rated at 246 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque when new. The carburetors were rebuilt in 2017, though the car has been sitting for a number of years and may require additional servicing.
Engine block stamping 7R10806 is shown above, and a corresponding number is listed on the chassis plate as well as the Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Dents and corrosion on the underside are visible in the gallery.
The Jaguar Heritage Trust certificate lists the factory colors and serial numbers.
The car is titled using VIN J712R28161, which incorporates the chassis number prepended by “J71.” It is registered in California as Planned Non-Operation (PNO).
