Info gathered with permission from:
www.hendi.nl/xke/main.htm

In 1976 this car was located in Connecticut. It was reported to have been used in England for Castrol TV commercials. It was said to be in good running condition, but not perfect, painted burgundy with a black interior and top, and fitted with 4.2-liter-type seats. The hood had been replaced, and the early latches were absent. It was described as having a few minor rust spots. The car was bought by its owner of that time, along with another external-latch RHD roadster, in England. The other car was white, and had a serial number about 100 later than 850034. 850034 had been crudely restored in England before this purchase. It was driven a while in England before delivery to the docks in running order, but upon arrival in the US, the transmission was not working and had to be repaired. 850034 was driven for a while in the US, and then in 1978 or 1979 was used as partial trade on another car. It was delivered to Connecticut, but the new owner was said to live in New York. Original color was said to be light green.

Tom Haddock (E-type restoration guide author) writes in the July '80 issue of Ejag magazine that this car is on his register of early cars.

Car is now at CMC for restoration:
www.xclusively-jaguar.co.uk/xclusively-jaguar-news/view/304-early-e-type-chassis ...

CMC's description:
A very early 1961 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 Roadster is to be restored by Classic Motor Cars of Bridgnorth (CMC), the world's leading Jaguar restoration company.

This car was the thirty-fourth to leave the production line and is one of the very few early 3.8-litre 'flat floor' right hand drive E-Type roadsters that has remained unrestored.

Nick Goldthorp, Managing Director at CMC, said: "This original right hand drive E-Type went out to America around 1980 and has been there ever since until it was brought back to the UK in 2011.

Overall, the bulkheads, front and rear are in good condition. The bonnet is a bit worse for wear but we have actually found an original 1961 E-Type bonnet that we can use. Otherwise, this E-Type is complete with its original engine, transmission and rear axle."

He added: "This will be a full nut and bolt CMC restoration. Every aspect of the car will be covered and brought back to the original specifications. Once finished, Chassis No. 34 will leave our workshop just as it left the factory back in 1961."

The company will start restoring Chassis No. 34 for a client towards the end of May.

very early car,but restored is not perfect for this car..the whisbone original black..the all nut black..the alloy tunnel and dash is not corret for early car...etc etc.

@baroni: alloy tunnel and dash look alright and correct for me (dot pattern - this is for the early cars)

Regarding black bolts and nuts, according to my knowledge noone knows exactly, when this changed. If it was after the very first few (e.g. in the two diggets) or later.....

I babysat this car for a number of years ( kept it out in my barn, actually) . I didn't give it its 3 AM feeding or change diapers. I took extensive photos of it's components.

If you have any questions in regards to this you may contact me.
