You can read for yourself the threatening communications above. I have removed this car from the database, and do not welcome any mention of it again, whether the "correct" version for sale at their dealership or the one originally mentioned here.

Details from website of Premium Classic Cars, January 2013
see www.premiumclassiccars.com/carlistings/1961-jaguar-e-type-ots-chassis-number-850 ...
The car offered for sale is Chassis 850104 a car delivered to the Registered 1st Owner in September 1961 , the car took up residence in Plymouth and has lived in the West Country all its Life, being Restored in the West Country by Marque Expert Jim Rothwell of Rothwell Engineering in Looe , during 1994 & early 1995. In 1995 the car completed a ground up Restoration where attention to detail was phenomenal. More than £80,000 was spent in 1995, both photographs & meticulous details of each step, are chronicled in the cars extensive History file. This includes, Restoration Photo's, the original Buff Log Book , tax Discs & MOTS documenting miles each year recorded & all importantly a full written report of the work comprising the Restoration.. The car was then sold in 1995, as the then owner fell into poor health. From completion of the Restoration, the car has covered less than 1000 miles, run in correctly and been carefully maintained , spanner checked & set up,, whilst stored at all times in a carefully monitored Climatic Cocoon and never has been driven in the Wet ! or even seen a Rain Cloud through all the recent years. Just dry miles & always-- a full clean, both under sides over a fully Lit Pit & top side !this is testament to the Concourse ! Post restoration presentation of this Stunning & Important E Type. Chassis number 850104 was the 1st production E Type to benefit from larger Universal Prop- Shaft joints & Flanges * as detailed in " Jaguar E Type / the definitive History " Period Bulletin re-this &this Bulletin is included in the History file.
This car is in Concours condition, today / with less than 1000 miles following a simply Superb Restoration. The car is totally Blemish free with Perfect Paint,Perfect Black Leather interior ,beautiful Hood & Tonneau, the Correct Tan Boot Lining simply superb. Fully correct mechanicals, following careful bedding in miles * the car is fitted with a Kenlow Fan / operated by a hidden manual switch * offering peace of mind , should the combination of a rare Summers day & Goodwood traffic !- Conspire against the fortunate owner -- ! This E Type is a 100% and potentially a Concourse Winning car,at any of the Important European Venues. With Impeccable rock Solid Provenance ,this is an outstanding example of the Iconic 1961 E Type., We are privileged to be able to have such cars for sale , this car has not been on the market for 17 years effectively hidden from the Jaguar World. The car will be supplied / fully serviced- with a "Rolling Road Set Up" & accompanying Dyno sheets --- Premium Classic Cars has been fortunate to have some sensational cars to sell, in recent years -- I have thought carefully how best I may describe- this Important E Type, three owners from new, Uk Supplied ,Flat Floor ----- Simply I do not believe this car can be "Bettered" ---- it is Superb & Correctly Restored in every way.The underside of the car / viewable for inspection from our Ramp --- exposes the DNA of the restoration, every nut washer / Bolt is correct and new ,sitting on Gleaming Red Chassis Paint or Beautifully prepared Gloss Black Drive train components--the finish exactly as the car would have left the Factory in Coventry. This Car is one of the most solid investments to be made in Classic Cars and the Car that the late Enzo Ferrari was heard to describe as " the most beautiful car, ever made " a view echoed by many to this day !
The car was a sensation to drive -in 1961 & still causes a sensation today-- this particular car is simply the " Best of the Best". Handling & performance --- manifest as totally sorted, just as should be ,from a car Restored to the very highest standard & preserved in that condition today.
This E type can be viewed by appointment with us here in Suffolk, any viewing will conclude ,a better 3.8 flat floor, rhd car , cannot be seen --- some of the Worlds best Restorers produce work parallel to this car, such cars are often pre - sold & priced to reflect the costs of a present day Concourse Restorations . This is a very rare chance to own such a car--fully sorted and ready today as such fantastic Value. As always we are very happy to meet our overseas clients at London Stansted, & indeed alternative London airports if needed --.Worldwide secure delivery is easily arranged ,if in mainland Europe - Phil will deliver the car personally as always to doubtless an extremely Proud new Owner ! As part of a hand over of this stunning Jaguar, this is an utterly breathtaking car & a credit to the last owner who cared for it & his late friend who painstakingly restored it.

If there is a 'cloning' query and we are to take it that this car is the genuine one, can we at least be told something about the earlier one apparently listed but now removed? I don't wish to stir the pot but it would be nice to help anyone who might otherwise end up getting copy car and avoid them accidentally getting embroiled in something risky? If one of the main points of this site is to try and establish provenance, there must be a way of highlighting 'red flag' cars to help sort the wheat from the chaff? I know of someone with impeccable decades-long provenance of an original car who does not wish to put it on here because there is a clone circulating in Europe built on his numbers. It is a pity if the site unwittingly cements the reputation of dud cars...

There is enough info here to let anyone know there has been debate about the VIN. A warning that wouldn't publicly exist without this site. As for cloning, I can't say it hasn't happened but it makes NO sense. Legal title can be had for a rusted hull for not much money, why in the world would someone risk cloning a surviving car? In my experience claims of clones are misreads, errors (the factory made them) or a combination of both. As for your friend, if he doesn't post his car here then he allows the rumors of a clone or if a true clone to continue with no warning to his fellow E-type owners/enthusiasts. Who is he protecting?

Ok we can all see the chassis plate is a repro, Chassis digits on picture frame looks ok ( I think??) Digits on engine are different sizes have not come across this before anyone remark?

All the ID's seen here appear to be very original. I've made a bit of a study of this area. Always look for the 1 sideways as the spacer. I'm satisfied, particularly with the correct fonts on all parts except for that 8 on the engine as you indicted a different font size. Typical of Jaguar, sloppy where it matters.

disagree 100% Sam
The word Tex aco should be split in the middle, its not.
The number one should have a horizontal bottom, it doesnt.
The number one was not used as a spacer on any early vin plate I have seen.
check 850095 for an original vin plate.
This plate is too nice for an original.
The paint under it is restored and this is a restamp !
Other that the number one the other numbers are a match but the depth is too shallow.

• Only 2,339 miles since restoration

This pristine example is the 104th right-hand drive roadster built and has the flat floor and various other features that characterise these early models. '850104' was delivered new to Plymouth and has remained in the West Country all its life. In 1994/1995 the Jaguar was fully restored with exceptional attention to detail, the work being carried out by marque expert Jim Rothwell of Rothwell Engineering in Looe, Cornwall.
