Car offered at auction 7/14/04
www.classicauctions.co.uk/Car_entries_index.html

Sellers description:
Being auctioned here is a 1961-made E Type roadster, a very early example of the so called `flat floor' roadster, which returned home from South Africa, where it had been for ten years attending shows and winning concours awards, before passing into the current ownership. During the past five years, the claimed to have always been righthand drive sportscar has been rarely used, says the vendor, RP 7446 having always been garaged and well looked after.

Currently, the appearance of the Coventry-made classic, which has been finished in red and retrimmed in correct biscuit lather, is described as being excellent. The chassis and the body panels are said to be good, as are the paintwork and the interior, while the classic XK 6-cylinder motor and the 4-speed manual gearbox are reportedly also in good order.

Estimate £23000 - 25000
Mileage 45227
Colour RED
Trim Colour BISCUIT
Chassis No R1514/850113
Engine No R16769

Car now offered at:
pendine.co/portfolio/1961-jaguar-e-type-series-roadster/

Sellers description:
Supplied in September 1961, via Henlys, London to Associated Newspapers Ltd, presumably to a company Director rather than a journalist in a hurry. This is one of the very first 'internal bonnet lock' cars, as production of the E-Type really began to build momentum.

Finished in Carmen Red with a Tan interior, this is a very well presented example with restoration invoices going back to 2000, following its return home from South Africa.

Forming part of an important private collection since 2008, at which point it received numerous upgrades. These included a 5-speed gearbox, Koni shock absorbers, Coopercraft brakes, Avon tyres and electronic ignition. It has just been fully serviced by a specialist, and with the benefit of the upgrades, it drives exceptionally well.

Less than 10 chassis numbers away from an Outside Bonnet Lock, and only a third of the price.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
