The Jaguar 3.8 roadster is probably one of the most desirable 'E' types and this superb example has one of the best specifications one could wish for. Back in 1962 the car left the Browns Lane factory in right hand drive format and it has been restored to its original colour combination.
This car, number 508 off the production line, has been restored to the very highest standard, with no expense being spared, and since then it has not moved even one mile which is why the odometer is showing zero. The body shell has been galvanized; all of the front suspension, the rear subframe and the axles have been powder coated; all the electrical equipment has been reconditiond or replaced; the engine and gearbox have been rebuilt; new chrome has been fitted as well as new wire wheels, new tyres and a new stainless steel exhaust system.
This is in absolutely concours condition and must be one of the best examples of this true British supercar available. Genuine right hand drive examples are very hard to find anyway - but in this condition and on offer at a fraction of even the rebuild cost we feel that this car will attract a significant amount of interest at today's sale.

    Lot 114 - 1962 Jaguar E-Type 3.8 Litre Series 1 Roadster
    Estimate: £70,000 - £80,000
    Registration Number: 690 LTT
    Chassis Number: 850508

This particular model left the works in Coventry in 1962 and was delivered new to a Mr Goddard from Seaton, Devon. 690 LTT was fully restored in 2000, at the same time, the car was also subject to an engine rebuilt, and has covered only 3000 miles since. Just following the rebuilt this E-type notably won the Jaguar Day concourse at Tatton Park- this is testament to the quality of this motor car.

Presented in the same internal and external colour combinations since new, this matching number E-Type must be of one the most original and best kept examples on the global market . Supplied with UK V5, Jaguar Heritage Certificate, restoration photographs and various bills and receipts. In excellent all round order, this E-type is the complete package , a fine example for the driver or investor.

    Registration no. 690 LTT

    Engine no. R4882-9
    Estimate:
    £55,000 - 75,000
    €69,000 - 94,000
    US$ 85,000 - 120,000
This beautiful E-Type Series I Roadster's accompanying Jaguar Heritage certificate reveals that it was manufactured as an open two-seater in right-hand drive configuration and sold new via dealer A J Beal of Exeter, Devon to one M J Goddard of Seaton in that county. The original colour scheme is recorded as Carmen Red with matching interior trim and black soft-top.

The car remained with its original owner from new until 2000 when it was bought and restored by a company, then sold to a Mr David Taylor. Noteworthy upgrades include Coopercraft ventilated disc brakes, under-body Waxoyling, electronic ignition, a Kenlowe electric cooling fan and a modern CD player discreetly installed in the boot and controlled via pod beneath the dashboard. There are restoration photographs and invoices on file, including those for the engine rebuild.

Mr Taylor was a wealthy retired farmer and the E-Type joined a stable of other classic cars, boats and steam engines, few of which were kept for any length of time. The E-Type was a concours winner at Tatton Park shortly after completion and in 2001 was sold to the current vendor. Since acquisition the latter has driven the car approximately 3,000 miles, including visits to the Goodwood Revival meeting. Described as in generally very good/excellent condition, '690 LTT' is offered with the aforementioned Jaguar certificate and restoration records, current road fund licence, MoT to September 2012 and Swansea V5C registration document.

    Registration Number 690 LTT

    Chassis Number 850508

    Engine Number R4882-9

    Transmission Manual

    Body Colour Carmen Red

The glorious Jaguar E-Type on offer here is an early 1962 3.8-litre Series I Roadster that was supplied to its first owner, a Mr Goddard, who obviously loved it as he kept it for 32 years until 2000. It has since changed hands a handful of times before being acquired by our vendor around 11 years ago. Prior to that, it had been comprehensively restored by one of the owners, post-Mr Goddard, with photographic evidence in the extensive history file. Prepared to a show standard, it won the Jaguar Day, Concours d'Elegance at the North West's Tatton Park event on its first outing.

Having purchased the Jaguar in c.2013, our vendor planned to export it to Australia, where he lived some of the time, until he was confronted with the punitive tax burden associated with importing the car. The decision was then taken to leave it here, professionally stored in a Carcoon, for his frequent visits home to the UK. However, he felt that it was worth investing further in the car and tasked specialists, E-Type UK Ltd, with sympathetically bringing the car up to modern standards as much as possible. The original gearbox has been converted to a 5-speed unit, electro-mechanical power steering is fitted and the stereo, once upgraded to a CD player which still accompanies the car, is now a more modern digital equivalent, again in keeping with the car, but more '2024'. The headlights have been upgraded to LED, so too the map reading light, perhaps a leap too far for some but certainly in line with the desire to be a usable classic. The list of mechanical works are too extensive to list here but be assured that the car has been almost taken apart and rebuilt, restored and replaced, whatever was necessary, so that as well as looking stunning, this is now a ‘turn key’ classic.

Our vendor, aware that the extensive costs of this work, details of which are all on file, at over £40,000, was unlikely ever to be returned, however an opportunity not to be missed has arisen that means he has chosen to offer this stunning Jaguar to the market at, what would appear to be, a seriously inviting guide price.

Accompanied by its Heritage Certificate and a substantial history file, this matching numbers, subtly upgraded, Carmen Red Series I Roadster on chrome wires seems, quite frankly, irresistible.
