This car was never registered with the
DVLA up until 2002 the date I purchased it.
The invalid reg No was EMM 8. It is now
registered MAS 648.

Just out of interest Lofty where did you purchase.EMM 8 from

This chassis no. 860028 was originally owned by Eric Merton Miller hence
the registration EMM8. Incidentally he owned a Ferarri Superfast at the time
which also bore the same registration, all very dubious.
He was the treasurer of the Labour Party under Hariold Wilson and a highly
successful property dealer. He subsequently took his own life after some
financial irregularities.

In addition to the above, if anybody out there can throw any light on to
any history on this car from Eric Merton Miller onwards up to 2002
I would be exceedingly grateful.

1961 Jaguar E-Type 3.8-Litre 'Flat Floor' Coupé (see text)
Registration no. MAS 648 Chassis no. 860028
£ 60,000 - 70,000
Goodwood Members' Meeting
7 Apr 2019, 13:00 BST
The 28th of only 175 right-hand drive 'flat floor' coupés made, this rare early E-Type left the factory in November 1961 finished in Gunmetal metallic with red trim, and was first owned by a Mr E M Miller of London SW7. Its late owner purchased the car from The E-Type Centre, Chilcote, Staffordshire in November 2002 (purchase receipt on file). Previously registered 'EMM 8', the car had been fully restored by The E-Type Centre immediately prior to delivery, as evidenced by their accompanying photographic record (perusal recommended). A bare-metal re-spray was carried out as part of the restoration and the following upgrades fitted: Kenlowe cooling fan, electronic ignition, Coopercraft 4-pot brake callipers with Kevlar pads, stainless steel exhaust system, Thatcham Category 1 alarm, Polybushes front and rear, halogen headlamps, door mirrors, chromed wire wheels, alternator conversion, and a Series 2 brake servo conversion (detailed invoice on file). It should be noted that this car now has foot wells (it is assumed that the original flat floors were replaced during the restoration).
Following the completion of the restoration, the E-Type was used sparingly and for most of the last 16 years has been kept inside a Carcoon when not in use. It should also be noted that 'MAS 648' has not seen much use of late and as such will require some sympathetic restoration and cosmetic re-commissioning before returning to the road. Accompanying documentation consists of invoices and correspondence relating to its previous ownership; numerous bills for parts and servicing; JDHT Certificate; three MoTs (most recent expired 2005); an old-style V5C Registration Certificate; and the aforementioned restoration records.

The first owner of 860028 – EMM8; Courtesy of Wiki:
Sir Eric Merton Miller (1926 – 22 September 1977) was an English businessman, who committed suicide while under investigation for fraud.
Early life
Miller was brought up in the St John's Wood area of North London and left school at the age of 16 to work in an estate agency. Shortly thereafter, he was spotted as a business talent by George Farrow who ran a small property company called Peachey. Farrow recruited Miller to work for him, and after Farrow's retirement, Miller became Chairman of Peachey.
Property dealings
Under Miller's guidance, Peachey Property Corporation took over many other companies and became the predominant freeholder for high-end leasehold properties in London. In the early 1960s, a sudden change in policy led Peachey to sell off some of the residential property in an attempt to become a major player in the commercial property field (then undergoing a boom). This attempt was not particularly successful. Miller was the developer of the Churchill Hotel in Portman Square for the Loews US Corporation.
Political activity
Miller's father had been a Labour Party councillor and he also supported the party. In the early 1970s, Eric Miller began contributing to the running of Harold Wilson's private office and became a close personal supporter. He was appointed to the board of Labour Party Properties and served as Treasurer of the Socialist International. He was also a long serving director of Fulham F.C.
Investigations
He received a knighthood in Wilson's retirement Honours list in 1976 (the controversial 'Lavender List'). However, rumours were already growing that the financial dealings of his companies had not been legitimate, and his inclusion in the list was criticised. Investigations uncovered the siphoning off of large sums from the Peachey Property Corporation, and Miller was forced from the chairmanship and eventually off the Peachey board entirely in early 1977. The Fraud squad and Department of Trade launched investigations, and Miller was served with four writs seeking restitution of funds he had allegedly taken. Miller committed suicide, by shooting himself on the Jewish Day of Atonement.

Miller next bought a Ferrari Superfast and displayed the EMM8 plate on that car (Although he never officially registered it with DVLA - The EMM8 plate remaining on 860028)
The following is an extract from Talacrest:
For full article see: talacrest.com/stockdetails.asp
first owner Sir Eric M. Miller of London, England, who paid £11,518 in total—an extraordinary sum of money in those days. The car was UK-registered as "EMM 8" to Mr. Miller, who was a noted property developer, a one-time Labour Party treasurer and a director of Fulham F.C. The registration number "EMM 8" also serves to confirm that this was in fact "Sir Eric Merton Miller."
Following the death of Mr. Miller in September 1977, 6659 SF remained in England and was stored for many years by Ash Marshall. Later in the 1970s, it was sold to Australia and Pat Burke's Modena Collection. Since the late 1980s, the car has been owned by a known succession of enthusiasts in Australia and the UK and finally by a property developer of South Africa and England, who had 6659 SF refurbished for £30,000 at GTO Engineering. In late-November 2005, 6659 SF was acquired by a previous owner when UK-registered "KYY 500 C" and sold to a new owner in 2011.

Made c. £120k in the above auction. Noted as being remarkably original and matching numbers by the Auctioneer. It’s currently a presentable scruffy driver that would make a rewarding restoration. Retains its original engine frame and stampings and body tag we noted. Nice project for the new owner

Had the early rear ‘uncovered’ hatch hinges, the early door opening retainer strap that folds in the middle and the body I.D tag. The auction file also had the original chassis plate included within the papers. The car was sold by the e-type centre in the 90’s Nice straight car.

In 1961 the original owner of this car 860028 Sir Eric Merton Miller also bought a new Bentley S2 flying Spur Chassic BC39BY with original registration number 1EMM - Eric Merton Miller. The car had lots of extras including a gold plated flying 'B' mascot. For the full article see Hymans website: hymanltd.com/vehicles/6496-1961-bentley-s2-continental-flying-spur-saloon Clearly a wealthy man to buy not only the e-type but also a new Bentley in the same year.
