Auction description:
Brooklands Motor Museum
September 21st 2019
1962 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster
Registration 595 DXR
Chassis Number 860226
Engine Number R3819-9
Odometer reading 76,825 miles
Estimate £55,000 - £75,000

Two owners from new
Nut and bolt restored in 1987
Converted from a Coupé to Roadster

This car was originally registered in March 1962, it is a desirable righthand drive, 3.8 litre, manual coupé example and was originally sold in red but now presents in British Racing Green. Comprehensively restored by the deceased, Mr. Jillings, in 1987, the work appears to have been to a very high standard and we are informed this was considered a 'nut and bolt' restoration by the current vendor and second owner, who is an engineer by trade. Mr. Jillings had decided to convert this car from a coupé to a roadster and considering this is an older restoration, upon inspection, much of the car appears very close to the standard that would have been seen post restoration. A sticker on the odometer indicates that the car may have covered just 3,000 miles since the restoration. The current odometer reading of 76,825 is also thought to be correct. Recently fully recommissioned since having been stored inside, this car is now in fabulous order. The interior presents as new and the underneath of the car is also in outstanding condition. The history file supplied with the car is comprehensive surrounding the dates of the restoration with many invoices and receipts coupled to previous MoT test certificates, a handbook and service manual. This is a very desirable conversion, carried out to a very high standard, by a talented engineer with provenance to match and thus will surely be a very attractive proposition to a potential 3.8 litre, Series I, E-type owner.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
