I used to own this car around 1966, I sold it and bought a later 4.2 E type but preferred the 3.8. I would love to talk to the present owner

Auction description:
Lot 557
Single ownership since 1989
1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8-Litre Coupé
The Beaulieu Sale Collectors' Motor Cars & Automobilia|14 September 2024
Registration no. 568 GAB
Chassis no. 860272
Engine no. to be advised
• Original right-hand drive model
• Kept stored and seldom used
• Vendor moving abroad forces the sale
An original right-hand drive model, chassis number '860272' was first registered on 1st April 1962 and appears to have belonged to a Mr Welby of Upton until it passed to one Tim Lees, also of Upton, in 1988. One former keeper is noted since its first registration and May 1977. An invoice dated March 1989 to Mr Lees confirms that restoration works were undertaken to make good the bodywork as instructed. An MoT of April 1988 on file records the mileage of 65,064, while another records it as 65,780 in 1989. At time of cataloguing the odometer reading was 69,804 miles.
A purchase receipt on file confirms the E-Type was bought by our vendor in August 1989 through Anthony Cope Ltd for the sum of £24,000, which was a lot of money in those days! (The average UK house price was around £60,000.) The current vendor has owned the car for 35 years, during which period it has been stored and seldom used; his moving abroad is the reason for the sale. Recommissioning is advised before further use. Finished in Warwick Grey with contrasting red interior, '568 GAB' is offered for sale for the first time in 35 years and comes with a copy V5C registration document.
Sold for £39,200 inc. premium

This 1962 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 FHC is an iconic British sports car, which has benefitted from an earlier repaint, and is presented following a recent recommissioning.
Under the bonnet is a 3.8-litre straight-six engine, which produces around 265bhp and sends it to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission.
The odometer currently shows 69,119 miles, which the seller believes to be the correct distance covered from new.
The seller notes that inspections are welcome.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This E-Type Coupe is finished in its original factory colour scheme of Pearl Grey over a red leather-trimmed cabin, with machine-turned metal trim inlays and toggle switches.
It rides on a set of 15-inch silver-painted wire wheels with chromed two-eared knock-off hub nuts, which are fitted with period-appearance Avon Radial tyres.
The cabin is equipped with a wooden-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel, Smiths instrument dials and auxiliary gauges, toggle switches, manually winding windows, heating and ventilation controls, and a push-button Radiomobile radio.
The car is also fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system,
The vehicle will be accompanied by a history file, its owner’s books, the Jaguar Heritage Trust production trace record certificate, and one key.

Specific notes from the seller include: original bodywork, floor and panels. Now recommissioned is ready to go to be used and enjoyed. Starts and runs beautifully. all instruments are in full working order.
The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 23 January 2025 at an indicated 69,101 miles, resulting in a first-time pass with no noted advisories.
The vehicle is now understood to be exempt from mandatory MOT testing due to its age.
SERVICE HISTORY
This E-Type’s most recent maintenance was carried out in January 2025 at an indicated 69,078 miles by Chris Shenton Engineering Ltd. The work consisted of an engine oil and filter change, as part of a wider recommissioning of the vehicle after a period sat idle. The seller notes that this recommissioning was sensitive and sensible.
The paperwork shows the car received bodywork and paintwork by Doughty Coachworks with an invoice in March 1989, with various replacement parts.
