Sold by Castle Classic Cars of Wadhurst in January 2020. Abbreviated seller's description below.
www.castleclassiccars.co.uk/showroom/vehicle/7248/1962-Jaguar-E-Type-Series-1-Co ...
This Series 1 comes with the best performance you will find and a history file dating back to when it was new. There is early service history at the famous Coombes of Guildford who supplied the car new in 1962 and then again to the current family custodian in 1965. The car has a modified gas flow head which gives 9.5:1 compression ratio with a 3.07:1 differential through a competition clutch and a full synchromesh gearbox fitted by Jaguar in the 60s. The car will need recommissioning. The current custodian has preserved the car over many decades but it will need some work as it has been off the road since 1998. The body is corrosion free and the engine runs, but at the least the carbs will need attention to achieve full running.
The history file documents the purchase of the car from Coombes of Guildford in 1965 with the invoice present, describes the upgrade to the head and has invoices from Jaguar for work carried out in the 60s. The car was in Vienna for a number of years in the 60s and there are invoices from its time in Europe and from there until 1998 when the car was taken off the road. There is a narrative written by the father of the present custodian detailing his experiences with the E Type over the previous 33 years. It includes some great stories with photographs of the car dating back to the 60s. This is a matching numbers car apart from the gearbox which was upgraded in the 60s. We have the heritage certificate which confirms the car remains in its original colour of Carmen Red with black leather interior. The car retains its original registration number.
