Interesting history
Owned by the vendor since 1986, this 1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) has an interesting early history. Ordered through Brysons in Sydney, this Australian delivered E-type was initially owned by second World War Spitfire pilot Stuart Black, who only sold it 18 months later because of all the speeding fines he amassed! Its second owner was NSW car dealer Murray Selke, who in turn sold it to fellow dealer Reg Phillips, well-remembered in motor racing circles for fielding a Porsche 911 sports sedan raced by later Holden hero John Harvey. The Jaguar then passed through a few local hands during which time its original Gunmetal Grey with Red trim was changed to Pillar Box Red with Black trim. Also, along that journey and for reasons unknown, the original 3.8 litre engine block was replaced by a period correct unit, to which the original correct-numbers head was fitted. In the vendor’s hands further work was done which has included an engine reconditioning, the body was refurbished and the colour further changed to Guards Red (a popular Porsche hue), and the bumpers rechromed. A woodgrain centre section was also fitted to the dashboard, however the original item comes with the car. Today, our Series 1 FHC presents very nicely on its chrome wire wheels, its bright red paint and copious bodywork chrome work still in good condition. The retrimmed cockpit is complete too, in decent condition, but unsurprisingly now showing a little age and patina. Invoiced to first owner Stuart Black on 31 January 1963, the E-type also comes with a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate and a copy of its history as researched by the current owner. It’s now ready to continue that interesting journey. There’s also a Workshop Manual, several magazines and a large folder of receipts. Previously on full Victorian registration, the 1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 FHC is being offered for sale here unregistered.
